We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.
3. No excessive self-promotion
Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.
This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.
4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts
This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.
We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.
5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW
Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.
No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.
6. No linking to piracy
Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.
We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

Fucking hysterical how everyone was celebrating Asha Sharma and Xbox a month or two ago, even though SHE LITERALLY SAID 1,600 CUTS ARE ON THE WAY.
This is because their AI bet fucking failed, and so did gamepass.
Yet the only ones hurt are Devs, the gamers, and potentially IPs people adore.
What a shit timeline this is.
There was nothing fundamentally wrong with the game pass idea. But that there was never anything good in it, and they kept raising the price. Sometimes they had so much filler content in there that if you discounted the games you didn't want and only looked at the games you did want, it would have actually been cheaper to just buy the game directly. Which is in what people did.
Nah gamepass is fundamentally flawed and it capped out well below their projections for a very simple reason they didn't consider.
Games are long, you can't binge 3 games a day. You might finish one a month, hell most people will finish one game every 2 months.
A subscription service for things where one of said things can take 20-100 hours doesn't make any sense.
That's letting alone the cannibalization of their own sales, a total lack of ownership for anyone exclusively on gamepass so they're never really committed, and you have a recipe for complete and utter mediocrity.
I am surprised they actually didn't see it. When gamepass was introduced, it seemed like insanity - how is $10 subscription with access to $60 titles is going to pay off, this makes no sense. Well... It didn't.
Yep.
It's also about control. Maybe it didn't start that way, but Xbox absolutely wanted to get people into their ecosystem with gamepass and the deals, and then keep them there.
I'm so tired of these shitty underhanded practices.
I just want to buy a PC/console/handheld and then be able to go and purchase a game that I OWN. Whether physical or digital, the fact that ownership is even a question when we have hundreds of ways to verify digital ownership, is insane.
These companies built a shitty world and they're finally paying a slight bit for it.
