I will only be buying future appliances without access to the internet. If I don't have to, I won't be connecting them. The benefits are nowhere near worth it.

My dishwasher has an app. Thought it was pretty cool for about five minutes until I realised, if I've loaded it, I'm just going to press go. There's never been a time where I load the dishwasher and don't turn it on. Why do I need remote functionality. Removed it from the network after it wouldn't turn on without me drying my hands, going to get my phone, and waiting for an update on the app.

Now the power button is hesitant to work, usually requiring multiple presses. Connected it to the internet again and it magically works fine again. Cut it off and it's back to being finicky. Feels intentional.

Also had a pair of $850 Dyson air filters that had an app - actually handy because I could control the fan from bed without a remote and it had a graph with the air quality throughout the day which was interesting. Both were bricked by the software a month after the warranty expired. To the day. Screen just shows a little explanation point instead of turning the fucking fan on. They wanted $250/fan to repair them outside of warranty. Probably would have been fine if I hadn't connected them to the internet.
