We’ll see how that works out when nobody creates new answers to new questions. Ten years from now LLMs have nothing but hallucinated trash for training data. How do you troubleshoot anything at that point is a mystery.
In ten years, there'll still be gen-X'ers around. Sure, we'll be muttering about being too old for this shit, but we're the last generation that intrinsically understand systematic troubleshooting.

Really doing us millenials dirty like that? Z and A are basically inept and aren't equipped with crticial thinking skills. We grew up with dialup, DOS, and soundblaater drivers.
I'm in college for the second time around in my 30s and the lack of critical thinking is astounding. We've been doing game dev for a year now and there are still classmates who don't know how to web search stuff. A couple months ago I asked someone to open the file explorer and they didn't know what that was. There's something going on where some of them simply don't want to think beyond the most surface level stuff and any question further is "I don't know and so I'm not going to look it up". Worries me. I'm trying my best to get them excited to learn and use critical thinking but I'm also just a student I've got my own stuff to be worrying about too
My stepdaughter is 8. When she asks a question, my first response is usually "what do you think?" And then once she gives her thought process then we go through how to get the right answer. I don't want to just give her answers, I want to give her tools to find the answers. And I want to make sure she at least tries first before she gets help.

I'm old enough to remember using Mac OS 9 on G3 iMacs when it was still in schools as a kid, yet was still in highschool when harambe died.

You got everything served to you on a silver platter! My first computer had no storage and only two games on cartridges. If I got bored with Space Invaders and Radar Rat Race, I would type in a program from a German magazine and I didn't even know German, so sometimes it would be a graphics demo, sometimes a calendar and occasionally a game. I would usually have about an hour left until bedtime when the computer would be turned off and the memory obviously cleared.
All you had to do was to enter "warez" into Alta-Vista.
