Out of curiosity, I checked local news (in Poland) and in the last couple of months there’s been like a dozen explosions caused by gas leaks. And a year before that. And a year before that.

To be able to tell what’s suspicious you need to know what’s normal. Gas leak caused explosions are very common. If you need a baseline you should be checking Greek news outlets, not Reuters, because random explosions aren’t that internationally newsworthy.
