It’s there so the little plastic tab that keeps the Ethernet cable plugged in doesn’t break easily.
Because honestly, those little plastic tabs are a shit design for keeping something important plugged in.
Thank you, I imagine it’s incredibly annoying when those break.
Eh, just takes a few minutes to replace. Though if you do it too often you can start to run into length issues.
Time for you to discover 'locking Ethernet' which has its own pros and cons
