Speed limit is meaningless on freeways
In practice sure, cause people just want or need to go faster. In all reality speeding doesnt really get you anywhere faster. 10-20 miles per hour faster on a 1 hour trip isnt netting a lot of time. Speed limits are set based actual science to keep people alive, sometimes they are completely arbitrary though.
Freeways are also a lot safer. Just stay in the right couple of lanes and go the speed of traffic. The lifted trucks can go 90 in the carpool lanes.
Agree they are safer, technically, youre just more likely to die from a collision on the freeway than street level. Probably because there is no cross traffic.
I wish staying to the right worked better. On Rt 60 there is a lot of on/off ramp traffic and some want to be in the left lane cut off by the midlane traffic where the right is actually where a lot more accidents happen.
You probably said it correctly, but, collisions on surface streets are less fatal because of cross streets?
Freeways have much fewer collisions per mile driven by a LOT
