Kids would actually play in quiet neighborhood streets or cul-de-sacs and the like. Drivers would drive slower because they knew kids would be playing, and kids would all get out of the way when one of them heard or saw a car.
"Street Hockey" was a thing.
I'm not sure exactly why, but it's not really a thing anymore. Seems like there are more cars and the quiet neighbourhood streets are more likely to be considered "shortcuts" these days. And where I live, there's little traffic enforcement, so rather than driving the speed limit (or less in areas where kids might be playing), people are happily speeding while playing with screens and devices in their cars.
It’s not a thing anymore because of The internet. Not cars.
There are a lot of reasons, but more cars on the road making playing on the road less viable is definitely a factor
Again, playing on roads shouldn’t be a thing. There is a reason why cars aren’t allowed to drive through playgrounds.
Fucking common sense.
Cars don't drive through playgrounds because that would be dangerous for the playground equipment and the children and adults in there.
So kids playing on roads shouldn't be a thing because kids are dangerous to cars and the road infrastructure?
That's not a good analogy.
Jfc you people are stupid.
You're the one who came up with a bad analogy. It's not you though. I'm sure you could come up with a better one if you were making a more sensible argument, though.
