I was trying to put a new SSD in my laptop recently, but it didn't recognize it. So I figured it needed a firmware update. I figured I could do this in BIOS, but nope! The updater was in .exe format.
Fortunately, I had an old Windows 8 install disc laying around. I had to install Windows 8 for all of 30 minutes to update my BIOS so it would take my new SSD. And it still didn't work! Well at least the BIOS is as up to date as it can be.
Your PC probably has a SATA M2 port but the drive is NVMe, same form factor, but not backwards compatible
