In most cases it's not cultural intimidation, it's pride and celebration. There are cases of paramilitaries using it to mark their territory, but in those cases it's specific paramilitary flags, not national flags.

Also it's not "haven't given back yet" Given "back" to whom exactly? Dublin? The Republic of Ireland was never sovereign over Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is in fact older than the Irish Free State / Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland belongs to the people of Northern Ireland. That was exercised in 1912, 1922, 1973 and 1998. On these occasions, Northern Ireland specifically moved to remain a part of the UK. Since 1998, it's been a constitutional matter that the UK has to remain sovereign over Northern Ireland unless the majority of it's voter base votes to leave. With a majority in the elected assembly being against leaving, that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
