I used to volunteer at a co-op repairing bikes and running a repair course. When I couldn't teach the course one of the local mechanics would teach it, I don't know how any of them could survive on a single income

Well if you're volunteering, isn't that part of the problem? Stop fixing bikes for cheap. Charge people more. If cheap/free places no longer exist, you can make money as a bike mechanic.

That's just capitalism for you.

If this is referring to me specifically I don’t work in the industry. The wrenches I know are mostly my age and do it for the love of the game and the support of their spouses.
