Roland Lescure tells the BBC that being in the bloc enables members to better address the challenges facing the world.

What do you think of this?

I think the UK should definitely be forging stronger partnerships with our allies. Otherwise we're just a middle power at best, drifting alone, ready to be pushed around by the US, China, and Russia.

The landscape has shifted dramatically since the referendum. Don't believe anyone on either side that says it was clear what the choices were. That future doesn't exist anymore.

Given that... The UK should reassess its relationship with the US who have proven to be as bad if not worse than Russia for our interests. That only leaves a handful of options. Join back to the EU fully, join the EEA + bespoke (probably best given the fractured nature of politics in the UK), go it alone. Going alone has not proved as beneficial given the US has basically shat itself politically.

This is much more about simple (๐Ÿ˜‚) trade and GDP. It's about security issues, political alignment on issues such as Ukraine Greenland Canada Falklands, threats to democracy from Russia Israel.

The tone is welcomed from more and more senior figures in the EU. But the UK needs to be vocal about the harsh reality it faces trying to chase the US's tail.

I agree with you that trade and security are both good reasons for the UK to get closer to the EU.

At the moment I think some leave voters just don't want to admit that they might have made a bad choice. And they have a steady stream of "influencers" from YouTube and Facebook telling them that Europe is evil.

General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
