I think that paizo is dwarfed about 10x by D&D but in turn dwarfs the next biggest ttrpg publisher also by a factor of 10. Idk if they are really indie or not, I'm not in charge of drawing lines.
I'd say the biggest difference between indie and non-indie is how corporate they are. I.e. - do the actual game designers and artists own and run the company, or is it run by suits and shareholders?
In that sense Paizo is still 1000% indie. Run by nerds with no corporate shareholders to answer to.
