Yes but no. I ask myself on any Linux package “does this solve a problem?”

Sure does, it solves several problems in one go, even.

  • My desktop looks to modern.
  • My desktop isn't nostalgic enough.
  • My Plasma doesn't look exactly like v3.

most of them neither involve you, or as in this case, concern you

That’s was weirdly aggressive. I’m trying to understand motive and you respond with dismissal, which means you either considered the inquiry an attack or that this project is actually dumb and that is not a satisfying answer.

Instead of chasing the dismissal and turning this into an internet slap fight among the most limp-wristed on Lemmy, let’s get back to my question: why do this?

Does this solve a UX issue? Is there some incredible performance advantage? Does it solve a problem? Is it an interesting technical challenge where something shouldn’t be possible but a neurodivergent paused his Minecraft videos and said hold my beer unconvincingly? Why was this done? Help me tune into what makes this impressive.

It solves the problem of having nostalgia for KDE 3.5, along with the problem of being curious about what KDE used to look like some time ago

Didn’t plasma have a theme for that already though?

Because they wanted to and some people may use it.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.
