Yep, I've been both, for sure, and I hear ya. Not so much the drinking anymore, and the former was just as often leading a group/class for science adventures, but yeah. Camping, et al, is near to my own heart and I hold it sacred as a method of meditation and re-centering, so there's some crotchety in there re: popularizing the luxurification of the whole thing. I mean, the Ship of Theseus is an entirely different question when someone's opened a gift shop onboard. 😅
