Odd, I sometimes have the feeling those pedestrian warning UFO sounds are sometimes louder than a quet-ish petrol engine would be, ie louder than necessary. But it is true that some cars don't have them at all.

My neighbor has one of the UFO models, quite creepy when they first moved in before I identified the source!

yea, we have an equinox EV, and it sounds like you are acending to heaven.

Im wondeirng how hard it would be to intercept the speaker signal, and play my own sounds, at a similar pitch/volume, say... a tie fighter

Or the Imperial March or that John Cena song

considering that, by law, the sound has to increase in volume AND pitch as you get louder, it would make the Imperial March sounds really... interesting, at the upper range.

I had rented a hybrid Accord that did that, thought it was hilarious

Yeah we rented a car for a day and it was a hybrid. When on battery the noise you hear outside was driving my wife nuts inside the car. They main issue is the noise was loud and same volume if you were stopped (with no road noise to counter it) or going faster.

Yeah, they are ridiculously loud.
