Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Unless it has a specific logo, there is no such thing as a school uniform.
A uniform is a standardized dress code. Just because it doesn't have a logo doesn't mean it's not a uniform.
Then anything is arbitrarily a uniform as long as more than 1 person is wearing the same thing. Same concept... No such thing as a uniform to ban as per this article.
Is this your first time encountering the term uniform, or are you just being deliberately obtuse?
By your logic, the guards at Buckingham Palace don't have a uniform, they just all like that outfit and happen to buy the exact same items. I don't see a union jack on their clothes, so by your own standards, it doesn't count as a uniform.
If you have a mandated dress code that you cannot opt out of, which even specifies which outfits are acceptable to be worn on which occasions, and often goes so far as to say you must purchase them from specific businesses (my experience with Catholic school uniforms, could well be different in the UK), then you have a uniform.
You know what I meant, don't be a pedantic ass. A schoolgirl uniform in this context can be anything. They don't want skirts, it's that fucking simple.
It's a uniform, they call it a uniform, their school enforces it as such, yet you're here saying it isn't because it lacks a school logo. You're the one trying to force a novel definition of the term uniform on us, so it's on you to actually provide a coherent definition of the term and convince us it beats the one everyone else is using, which you fail to do.
Also, school uniforms often consist of much more than just a skirt. Typically, it will be a skirt, stockings, blouse, a blazer in the winter, and possibly even shoes. Do you know these girls? If not, how do you magically know they would be fine with the rest of their uniform if they didn't have to wear a skirt? You're making a lot of baseless assumptions, from what I can see.
Also, for what it's worth, nothing in the article even says they are asking to not have to wear skirts or do away with uniforms. They are requesting that porn producers be banned from buying and using schoolgirl uniform costumes in pornography. Straight from their petition linked in the article:
They actually are making a very good point though. How do you legally define a uniform.
What exactly is it that they are proposing to ban here, because as far as I'm aware porn doesn't actually depict a particular school's uniform they just depict a general suggestion. White button shirt, skirt, tie.
What exactly would the law say? How would it be worded?
That's a perfectly valid point about law that they have bumbled adjacent to, but never actually broached themselves. I'm not saying that the law would even necessarily be a good idea, just pushing back on their original, nonsensical claim that if something doesn't have a logo, it doesn't count as a uniform. They just claim this isn't a uniform on an absurd basis, and provide no support to justify why anyone should accept that idea when it has nothing to do with the conventional definition of a uniform.
I think Lemmy just got an influx of dumbass teenagers. It's Fall Break in the US. I've been coming across this idiocy in multiple other threads the last day or so.
Not sure what the hell “fall break” is but uh, just here to point out you’re already peppering your comments with random made-up shit. (Granted I haven’t been in school for like 20 years)
"Fall Break" is just the autumn-themed equivalent to Spring Break. Most US-based schools have one of some sort.
Not every school has one. But some (most?) have introduced a "Fall Break" to match "Spring Break". I thought "Fall Break" was always Thanksgiving Week in the U.S., but my youngest niece is on Fall Break this week. My last year in university was 2003, and I don't think I ever had a Fall Break.
And yet, when I say "school girl's uniform," you know damn well what I mean.
Just because I'm not an idiot and live under a rock, many people do and would have no idea, and ultimately, there is no such thing. It's bullshit and not standardized anywhere, just a cultural thing.
It's a cultural thing, like money.
That's not how the law works though. You have to define everything.
