Showing lead levels are higher in shooters didn't seem to be the point from how I read it. It stated that lead is dangerous and that around half of the people polled report not performing any kind of post-shooting hygiene.
"...post-shooting hygiene behaviors are uncommon and may represent a substantial pathway for residential lead exposure."
The implications seems to just be that poor shooting related hygiene could be a way people are getting exposed to lead. As in it might be something worth investigating.
It also builds off several other studies that have accumulated over the last 2 decades. It even says that in the conclusion of the study re-linked here: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0749379726003168?dgcid=author
Here's a separate NIH survey study that concludes you should avoid eating, drinking, or smoking while shooting, and washing and changing clothes after. As well as other precautions that are more out of your control most of time: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5379568/
