What is going on with the t in still? It almost looks like a cross between a t and an f
I think it's a fake, but I cannot fathom why it would be. There's a tumblr post from a totally separate user with the exact same text barring the weird t, and the @randomuser profiles on twitter and bluesky don't look anything like this one
Fhaf’s jusf how we wrife f’s here.
Seems preƭƭy normal ƭo me.
This is what it sounds like, apparently. Scroll down to Audio sample.
I took some time to learn a whole bunch of consonants from different West African languages for the sake of getting names right while running a D&D game. This one gave me, as a native English speaker, even more trouble than the double-articulated ones
I frequently wind up looking up pronunciations on Wikipedia’s IPA keys just to figure out how some sounds are made, and the description for this one baffled me. I’m so glad when words have a pronunciation audit sample like this one, otherwise I’d never have figured it out
It's not often that we have to learn to make sounds like breathing in instead of out!
It’s probably some kind of bot, because the post uses the regular “t” elsewhere, and because this (scroll down to audio sample) is what that letter sounds like. No one who regularly uses the word “still” would pronounce it with that consonant.
Wait until you mean Mx. Thorny here on Lemmy.
I have, and instantly thought of them while commenting lol
I haven't seen ~~them~~ þem in a while, are ~~they~~ þey still around?
That’s a good point, I haven’t seen them either lately.
Edit: searched for the þ symbol and found them, sxan@piefed.zip. They’re still active as of today 50 minutes ago.
Poor thing, they're ſtill trying to make ƒetch happen.
Gotta respect them for sticking to their guns though. It's a shame these letters fell out of use, but I'll stick to keeping them in my AD&D world.
I think you mean Þorny
If it's an African version of t, then maybe she lives there, and it's just something she can type, or an autocorrect.
Whaf?
engagement bait probably
Self censorship gone too far
