I have a lifetime pass and there is remote streaming without needing to setup of a bunch of technical stuff for me and my user base. If I was only using for myself, I'd use jellyfin, but I have over a dozen users that aren't going to setup tailscale or something similar to access it. Also, I've personally never had any issues with the platform. Yes it's enshittifying, but it hasn't reached a threshold where I need to do something about it.

This is completely reasonable, and I'm not sure why it has to be explained in every single thread about Plex.

Because Jellyfin users need to feel smug for some reason

Alot of Lemmy users are like this

Yeah, the lack of streaming proxy seems to be the only real killer feature that Plex has.

Tools like Netbird makes setting that up so easy though, it's not nearly as painful as older tools like Tailscale and ZeroTier. Even my mom was able to set it up on her devices.

You have a lifetime pass for now.

Edit: Sorry to break the bad news to some of you, but software companies cancel "lifetime" licenses with both contempt and impunity.

I hate this argument. Why should anyone quit using something that works perfectly fine just because a company might do something someday?

Jellyfin isn't going to suddenly be unavailable the day plex changes its service.

Let people use what they paid for, and switch IF that ever comes up. It's obviously working for them.

When they do, I'm not giving them a single cent anymore.
