Ask a Brit where America is. They'll point to the US. Same with an Australian. Same with someone from Ireland. Same with a Canadian. Same with a South African.
But all that's besides the point. Trump is (unfortunately) an American and he's speaking to Americans. So even if it was just part of US English, he'd still have the usage right.
Do they? or do you need to say United States or The States? Have you checked?
Yes, I personally know someone from each of those countries.
