Yeah, I'm sure Claude's 133,000 lines of code written in the span of a week were thoroughly vetted.

Tired of this slop garbage.

Arguably, open source is the only ethical use of AI - if it means Sony and Nintendo suffering for their decisions, I dont mind.

[-] boonhet@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 days ago

You're free to do it yourself manually or just buy the consoles your games run on.

[-] apotheotic@beehaw.org 2 points 3 days ago

They are! Seems unrelated to their criticism over the mountain of slop

[-] boonhet@lemmy.zip 0 points 3 days ago

How do you know what their consumption habits are?

And the mountain of slop provides a way for those who can't buy several different consoles, to play the games for those consoles. Emulators exist too, sure, but they're also far from perfect and require a much beefier machine usually. My Gameboy Advance emulator runs fine on my iPhone. Yuzu was having trouble on a fairly modern PC a few years ago and it's not even emulating a new console by any means.

"They are (free to)!"

Slave labour provides cheap chocolate for those who can't afford to purchase their optional chocolate ethically type argument

[-] boonhet@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

Fair, misunderstood the "they are".

It's quite the opposite though. People are demanding open-source devs to toil away for free because using the thing that can automate a bunch of work is bad.

A more apt comparison would be:

Tractors put people out of work so we shouldn't buy produce from farms that use them, BUT we also don't want to pay extra despite the fact that these farms require more labour to produce the same amount of crops.

You're always free to start your own tractorless farm and you'll see how many people are willing to pay extra just for not having a tractor involved versus how many people would prefer things to be cheaper.

Maybe not a perfect analogy because food is essential, but it kinda shows how annoying the people that demand their completely free software is handwritten seem.

Go donate a couple grand a month to a project you truly care about and maybe the dev can afford to work on it full time instead of using LLMs to build the things they want to exist.

I should also mention that whatever device you're posting from, likely benefits from slave labour somewhere in the supply chain, as do many other goods in our lives. Living in the west, most of us benefit from some form of slavery or another happening somewhere we don't care about because it's out of sight. It's quite unfortunate. Comparing LLM usage to actual fucking slavery is WILD to me though.

Sheeeesh. Lotta assuming and projecting. I'm gonna go ahead and disengage, have a good one!

[-] boonhet@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

But that's what this is. "Waah waah nobody spent thousands of hours to bring me this free thing". It's always been a pain point with FOSS but now people are getting especially pissy that they're not getting more for free.

[-] apotheotic@beehaw.org 1 points 2 days ago

You are entitled to believe that! Have a good one!

[-] boonhet@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

And you're entitled to believe people need to labour for you for free. Have a good one!

[-] apotheotic@beehaw.org 1 points 22 hours ago

Nobody needs to anything, but I do wish you would respect my request to disengage instead of taking shitty little jabs at me as I wish you well.

[-] boonhet@lemmy.zip 1 points 11 hours ago

So you're uncomfortable about admitting that you want people to work for free to bring you the open source software you want instead of using assistive software to automate the process. Alright, whatever. Have a nice day.

Very mature response. What are you, 12?

I mean, you heard them. I'd say one year old at most. My three year old niece is more eloquent
