Update to rules (lemmy.world)
submitted 1 week ago by loopy@lemmy.world to c/dadjokes@lemmy.world

The rules limiting “mature-natured” jokes have been lifted after the general consensus of feedback was in favor of more openness. Thank you all for taking part of the discussion. I am always open to suggestions on how to improve the community as it develops.

On a personal note, as fall sets in for me, I realize I haven’t had a single mosquito in my backyard all summer.

Oh shoot, I thought Uncle Jokes could handle the edgier jokes. I'm not going anywhere though. What about asking people to preface them with a rating letter? G or E for the mosquito joke for instance. T for the jokes a Dad could tell teens but not little kids, M for the jokes he only tells Mom

I'm curious, are people actually getting offended or upset if they read a joke with mature humour?

Not offended, I know well enough that people most often than not don't mean to offend, they are just having fun.

I liked this place because it focused on silly puns. The world needs more silliness.

Let's see how this goes.

I'm not offended by mature humour. I just liked this a resource of kid-friendly jokes. If it stops being that, there's a million other sources of adult-oriented humour.

I'm not, and my kids are grown so I can share all kinds with them. Also I'm not likely to miss any NSFK double entendres. But I think some people like a few places on the Internet that are adult-clever but safe to look at with their kids. And some might be less likely to realize the implications of a joke that might make it NSFW, either through language issues or their own innocence. Just as most English-first people today don't realize "hoist on his own petard" was another of Shakespeare's many fart jokes. So few in fact that it's now completely appropriate anywhere.

Yes, unfortunately. People can be quite strange.

I think the NSFW tag should be enough for more mature jokes (?)

I toyed around with the idea of having tags, either using the NSFW tag for more “uncle joke” material or tagging “E” material using a text like you are saying, such Safe for Everyone [SFE]. I think for now, I’ll let the reader decide which ones they want to retell. If the posts start to include a lot of uncle jokes, I might consider some sort of tagging for posts.
