Yeah, I think Lemmy can be great, but there's a non-zer0 percentage of users here who are too self righteous and condescending to talk to. You have to wonder if they ever talk to anyone outside of lemmy. Some of them seem hellbent on destroying American democracy. And then some people are just viciously rude. I started liberally blocking users, communities, and now an instance. It improves the experience a lot. I don't know what the percentage of absolutely impossible users is, but it's higher than I would've guessed. It's like everyone like that who came here from reddit decided they still needed the conflict and vitriol so they just recalibrated to direct it at people who slightly disagree with them whereas they probably used to direct it at Nazis/conservatives.
Oh definitely. They're the "destroy instead of fix" crowd. Like children. Children who don't get that doing something like that causes MANY people to suffer/die and that you could, and likely would, just end up with something worse. They don't care, because they're immature, reactionary shitstains.
I think a major commonality with Lemmy users is being temp/permabanned from Reddit, myself included. It's an awful platform run by awful people so a lot of the bans are genuinely unwarranted. But I have to assume that a lot of those people were banned for good reason and then they end up here with the same personality that got them justifiably banned from Reddit.
Yeah, I find it hard to know if those shit stains are truly that fucking stupid, or actually malicious. It's gotta be a mix, but either way it's enraging and discouraging.
I'm sure you're right with your Reddit ban leading people here theory. I've thought the same thing myself.
