While the cops are absolutely wrong for shooting this woman, why did she try to flee? As far as I remember, she didn't steal anything. In what way could behaving like a criminal and escalating the situation be even potentially beneficial? Especially if you have a god damn one year-old in your back seat??
She's still the victim, but her behaviour just doesn't make any sense to me!
Ever seen Mississippi Burning?
I think that's kind of a naive take.
I think its a fair thought in a perfect world where she could have just said "you must be mistaken" and know she won't get shot just for talking back.
Imagine you're going about your day doing normal stuff, and suddenly you have 4 (5?) armed thugs running at you with guns drawn and a long history of shooting people for fun and getting away with it.
Anyone is gonna be panicked, anyone is going to take a split second to try and decide where their best chances of survival are. Especially with a baby in the car, I can't blame her at all for trying to get away from the situation, regardless of whether she stole fucking diapers or not.
They could have shot her and her baby if she had just stopped and got out too. She made a choice and it ended in tragedy, but it's nowhere near her fault.
Well, okay, I live in a country where firearms are not allowed for general public and cops pretty much never shoot, so my thinking is completely different. If stopping and complying could actually still get her shot, fleeing might very well be justified.
I live outside America now, and all I can say is that US Police brutality, as well as police presence, is absolutely insane compared to any other civilized country. If you haven't lived in America before, you just have no basis for comparison really.
If a piece of shit charged at me with a gun, there's a non zero chance I would not make perfectly logical split second decisions.
