Is there any Linux distro thats anti-AI?

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"
A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.
AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.
Rules:
Not any other of the BSDs?
They recently changed their policy to forbid AI: https://mastodon.sdf.org/@netbsd/112446618914747900
They allow LLM contributions tho...
Long live NetBSD then!
Maybe none of them https://codeberg.org/ethical-foss/ai-free-foss-alternatives#operating-systems
Yea, that list is painting a fairly bleak picture.
Linux kernel and all BSD are basically “lost”, which means FOSS OSs are basically lost. Arch, gentoo and Elementary (and Asahi, interestingly) seem like notable exceptions against the grain, but they are just distros.
Not sure where anti-computing is supposed to be from here?
Honestly, organising around a hard fork of a kernel and committing as a collective seems the only viable way … but we sure as hell know that’s not going to happen.
I hate AI, the way it is generally being used, and the harm it is causing to society, our environment, our cognitive abilities. All of that said, it is difficult to be a purist. You just do your best and when it comes to operating systems, that is especially true. What I value most in an operating system is privacy, security, and ease of use (mostly just works). So for me, I need to find that in a distro with a AI use policy I can live with. That’s a sliding scale, not all or nothing. Factoring in that alternative OSes might be worse on the AI front or less useful out of the box, and I’m just staying out for now. If an alternative can compete on those fronts, I’ll consider switching.
