Yeah but until recently that tracked the decreasing cost of storage, so you might think devs would be prioritizing lower filesizes now
Can't believe I'm defending Rockstar here but...
...it's been in development for over a decade. How would they have planned around this recent surge in prices
They could have spent that last year or two optimizing the game.
But considering it took some random person on the internet to reverse-engineer the code for GTA V to figure out why online loading times took so long, an issue they left alone for years, I doubt they even spent a minute trying to get file size down.
Compared to the 3000,- a 20MB drive cost said decades ago, storage is cheap ๐ But you say that as if the big studios care about such things. People will pay full price (or probably higher) anyway. Even if it'd be 1TB download.
Yeah but compared to 1.5 years ago, storage is up 2x at least. Even HDDs are more expensive than same size NVME SSDs used to be, it seems.
Everything is closing in at 2x of 1.5yrs ago, so what? Do you use LLMs? Then you're part of the reason, why are you complaining? Don't? Then sorry bro...
Besides, my initial post explicitly said "last 3 decades", so the reference frame was fitting. Despite not being totally serious...
