You know what, you're right. The more I think about it the more I have to admit that we couldn't really have free will and that level of predestination
I don’t know, I think it depends on if you include the origin of soulmates in the definition you use. If you define soulmates as people that were made for each other, then yeah I suppose that creation is out of their hands while defining who they are (and maybe implying that something/someone did the creating). When I think of soulmates I tend to think of persons that are perfectly suited to be together without necessarily needing a cause for it.
It would seem unlikely that every person has a soulmate or that every set of soulmates would meet each other, but it seems possible for such people to become perfect for each other through free will.
Also as a tangent, I misspelled it as ‘soupmate’ in the dictionary at first, and if I had a soulmate we would probably be soupmates too :P
Or... maybe predestination is true in the sense that the universe is just physics and therefore theoretically calculable. I suppose that's less romantic though.
Quantum physics says that it is entirely calculable, in that every option is happening simultaneously at every instant. It would just take a billion years to calculate a standing glass of water, at our current level of development.
Quantum physics also agrees with chaos theory, to a degree, though, in that matter behaves in very strange ways, and at atomic and sub atomic levels behave in potentially completely random ways. So, fuck it all, love the one you're with.
The “spooky action from a distance” of quantum phenomena like entanglement fully supports this attitude as the default. Every realized/observed/actual reality necessarily coalesces/collapses every superposition into congruency.
In short, retcon: the universe is retroactively continuitous. So the one you’re with is always who you were “predestined” to be with.
Yeah, except predestination is only possible to predict in retrospect.
Which is just fine when you love the one you’re with.
