The cost difference between synthetic and human hair wigs is substantial. It’s also an act of love and support.
So they could have bought a wig, but now she has a wig made from the hair from someone who loves them and did this as an act of service.
She probably had wigs already.

It also takes multiple heads of hair to make a wig.
