Lula's government recently announced the lowest Amazon deforestation rate on record. However, he faces a Congress dominated by the far right and agribusiness interests, which often back measures weakening environmental protections.

I mean, it's probably past the point of no return in terms of wildfires. Soon, like most forests in the world, they will be carbon sources instead of sinks.

tbf, wildfires aren't a thing in the amazon rainforest.
