Found both of these a month and ~400 miles apart. Holds or leashes for something?

this reminds me of the time me and my sister found a little plastic sword in the cupholder at a cinema so we were play fighting with it and then my mom took it and let us know that it was not a tiny plastic sword, it was some stranger's discarded disposable flosser

This is correct, I’ve lost many a pair cause I don’t like how they feel though soooo

Wild that people wear them while doing physical activity...

Like, it would fuck my breathing up.

Can you not do that thing where you seal your nasal cavity at the back of your throat? I imagine it's like wiggling your ears or making your eardrums "rumble", you can learn it's just hard to explain to someone else how to do it.

Water gets in my sinuses and causes a major headache.

It got even worse after sinus surgery.

I actually really struggle with that, and hate the feeling of water up my nose hence the plugs. Some white water kayakers I know don’t bother, but most do because if you’re play boating or running something class 3 plus the torrent of water is being forced up your nose and that sucks. If I’m just swimming I can manage with out nose plugs but it took me a couple of years in my late teens to get used to not holding my nose. And even still if I’m jumping from something higher than the edge of a pool/low diving board I physically hold my nose

I think for a lot of people, myself included, water in the nasal cavity feels terrible no matter what. I feel it's less about preventing water from entering your throat and more about keeping water out of your nose entirely.

Eh, blowing air out after is kinda the same reflex. And decent seawater is basically netty potting yourself everytime you go under. I was in a situation to go to the beach every day for a year straight, and it was the best my allergies have ever been because at least once a day I was flushing it out with warm seawater.

Keep in mind, the alternative here is wearing nose plugs during prolonged physical activity. Restricting breathing during physical exertion is going to rub a lot more people the wrong way.

So I'm surprised people would deal with that, over the chance of some water going up their nose.

You don’t wear them the entire time you are on the river. You put them on just before a big rapids then take them off after the rapid while you paddle to the next one. I have had water forced past my nose plugs going over in a rapid before, that is how forceful it can be.

Do you like a sinus headache? Because I don't.

Same reason you'll only see me use a nasal rinse when I'm seriously stuffed up.

And on top of that you look like a character from the movie Battlefield Earth

Holy shit, I forgot about that... What a disaster of a movie, Hubbard was such a hack.

By chance, I read the book a few years before the movie came out, and really liked it -- So I've never watched the movie.

I don't understand either, I can't do it manually my brain just does it anytime I go underwater. I can jump in water with my mouth open and nothing enters my body 🤷

[-] Nomad@infosec.pub 2 points 6 hours ago

Yeah, I can do all three. And you can also stick your tongue up your nose from the inside of your mouth, I can do that too. I was quite bored as a child.
