Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world
7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. It's not fair to the ones who took their time to answer, and it's not in the spirit of the community.
8) No Bots.
Posts or comments from bots, LLM's, AIs, Neural Networks, Transformers, or Marvin the Paranoid Android are not welcome in AskLemmy. Real humans only please.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

Masturbation is a healthy normal part of human existence and is to be celebrated.
NNN is at best a silly joke inspired by Seinfeld's "master of my domain". At my most generous, it can serve as a reminder of how great masturbation is because you never miss something as much as when you lose it.
At its worst, it is toxic manosphere incel poison.
Being a virgin means nothing. When you are ready and find a suitably ready partner it will happen. Nothing about you changes. You don't become a man. Equally staying a virgin is fine too, you always have masturbation! No need to mourn the loss of an experience you weren't ready for in the first place. It's really not a big deal. We build it up like its some holy grail but when most people finally do have sex, their reactions leans toward relief for ticking off a checkbox and disapointment that it wasn't more.
I agree 100% with you. But I must admit, I abuse it and it's an actual problem. It has affected me mentally and physically (won't get into much detail here, but I get pretty bad withdrawals after masturbating at times, more often than not I physically feel uncomfortable if I'm not touching myself, even if the activity that I'm doing is not sexually arousing in any way, I am tired everyday all the day etc). I don't have a problem with the act itself, but with the addiction. It's a problem that I'm willing to solve tho.
I have trouble understanding the term addiction here. Withdrawals? The terminology is being borrowed from drugs and I'm not sure how it fits. If you suspect there is a real issue, you need professional medical support from a doctor, psychiatrist or sexual health professional.
Sad jokes like NNN do not help and more often than not do real harm.
Just cut it down to a couple times a week instead of trying to stop completely for long periods of time. Make a schedule if you need to.
Moderation is the way to go.
