Nothing. The issue is that people are super gullible and don't think critical. They have their bubble and stay inside of it, swallowing whatever is in line with it. This means that there are a bunch of incentives to leverage this to whatever advantage.
I agree with you that people are gullible and lack critical thinking. But I'm wondering if the environment of the internet could be "rigged" (in a good way) against this. Perhaps making cross-comparing info easier? A bit like the original idea behind HTML.
