I'm not convinced Threads is actually going to federate. They've had months to do it, and it's not like the parent company lacks resources. What it might lack is a business case for federation or serious consequences for not keeping its promises.
I'm almost in agreement, I'm increasingly skeptical with how long it's taking.
Threads seems like it was supposed to be in development for another several months. I bet they decided to launch much earlier than they ought to have in order to capture the outgoing Twitter crowd.
Not to mention the fedi pact...
