Huge doubt. Mastodon only has 1.6 million active people source, it's practically a rounding error compared to all of Meta's properties.
Threads had ~65x as many people sign up in a month, and even though many dropped off, Threads is on track (as of Sept) to reach 23.7 million users. source.
The fediverse is certainly a thing that needs to grow but I think it's real-world impact right now is greatly exaggerated.
Wow 23.7 million active users seems surprisingly high compared to Twitter's projected 56.1.
Yeah the fediverse's real-world impact is definitely miniscule currently, but I can't seem to trust even a tiny bit in Meta to not pull the EEE plug. I understand your opinion tho.
Honestly I was surprised so many people still use Twitter.
I just figure if Threads federates, it means one less reason for people to say “well Mastodon has nobody on it” because they can just add people on Threads. I think more people would leave Threads for Mastodon than Mastodon for Threads.
