In a saner era, such a comment — especially in a public forum — would warrant a visit from the Secret Service, and often arrest and prosecution.

It's illegal, always has been, and ought to be. I'm waiting to see if the mechanisms of law still care, because if they don't, well, the conversation gets a lot more heated.
