TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name

/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Hating someone off of their race, culture, creed, sexuality, or identity is not remotely acceptable. Mistakes can happen but do your best to respect others.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon' and fuck over our artist friends.

Fun will now commence.

@jawa21@startrek.website for realizing that the line used to be "want to be added to the sidebar?" and capitalized on it. Congratulations and welcome to the sidebar. Stamets is both ashamed and proud.

A few of us did leave comments and posts behind telling people where to go, but they quickly got deleted by the mod. Sorry, we tried. Glad you managed to find us!

While I enjoy the content, I subscribe to neither. Rest assured that anyone who has browsed Hot or Top 24h would sooner or later be made aware of the existence of TenForward. The ~~spam~~ quality content here tend to bubble up to the top. πŸ––

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I didn't think to do that.....

[–] DarkSirrush@lemmy.ca 8 points 7 months ago

No joke, I browse top 12h and the first day of the switch was already a huge difference, and now I basically don't see Risa anymore.

[–] GuyFleegman@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Heh, of course he did. It takes a real big brain to kill a community where the only rule is β€œthere are no rules.” A big, smooth brain.

[–] kellyaster@lemmy.world 12 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Hey, you're the creator of the original r/risa back on Reddit! Yeah, it's crazy how quickly the burrito truck tanked it...the exodus practically happened overnight! I found out about Ten Forward not 48 hours after Stamets created it, and by then 95% of the posters had already moved away from Risa. I'm sorry they killed your creation, it's a real shame it had to happen over such stupid reasons.

[–] GuyFleegman@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I sure am, and thanks!

Yeah, I am genuinely sad they killed it... but not all that surprised. I cut ties with that instance precisely because their moderation style is so opaque and capricious. It's great to see the spirit of the place live on here.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 3 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

Maybe next time divide the power of the instance between people. From there you could create some policies to handle issues.

It seems like drama in community infrastructure is common. Its best to think ahead.

Sorry about your instance though. I take it you didn't buy the domain.

[–] GuyFleegman@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

On paper, we did that. There are multiple admins and we laid out a mission statement and guiding principles to try and ensure everyone was on the same page.

But at the end of the day, there's one name on the domain registration and one person getting the monthly bill. When that person tells you "these other people are more important to the success of this instance than you are" following a disagreement on how to apply those guiding principles, there's not much you can do but get out of Dodge.

Thanks for listening. I appreciate it.

The removed my posts asking people to post more because of "drama"

I didn't even know there was "drama" until recently. I like the idea of startrek[.]website but I don't like the way its being run. They should do a voluntary shift change.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 10 points 7 months ago (1 children)

startrek.website is a disgrace to the principles of its namesake.

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago (2 children)

I've been wondering lately if they're even allowed to get away with that domain and branding.

[–] GuyFleegman@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (2 children)

The domain and name of the place was my idea, how do you think I feel :(

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

Really?! Jesus. I have been giving Corgana and ValueSubtracted way too much credit then. I assumed they were the ones who came up with the name. Half expecting to find out next that it wasn't even their idea to move.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 0 points 7 months ago

Damn....

Maybe startrek2[.]website?

[–] lars@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 7 months ago

Not really related but I love everything you bring to Lemmy and I haven’t caught the Star Trek bug yet. Give ’em hell and don’t let them bring you down.

[–] hallettj@leminal.space 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Hey, I made it over. Thanks for the heads-up you gave me! The notification came through before the post was deleted.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Who are you? Anyway I'm glad I could help.

[–] hallettj@leminal.space 2 points 7 months ago

In one of those deleted posts you told me that my other instance (Beehaw) is especially aggressive about blocking instances, and you said that there had been some disagreement with a mod that I'd have to research myself.
