The problem is Russian jets have the range to just fire from within their own airspace.

Surely with all the NATO funding there is a solution to this problem, certainly against weaker countries US and coalitions have managed to take down enemy planes. So either there is a solution for this or we are pretty fucked in Europe too

Ukraine likely have the capability to shoot them down its just shooting down planes deep inside russian airspace is quite a large escalation.
