I like how the Malaysian TV guide is in English

[โ€“] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 16 points 7 months ago

Excerpt from the Wikipedia article Languages of Malaysia:

English is widely understood and spoken within the urban areas of the country; the English language is a compulsory subject in primary and secondary education. It is also the main medium of instruction within most private colleges and private universities. English may take precedence over Malay in certain official contexts as provided for by the National Language Act

Given that and the fact that the people of Malaysia speak several different first languages but the overwhelming majority speak English as a second language, it's not much of a stretch for there to be English sections of their TV guide ๐Ÿคท

Tell me you've never been to Malaysia without telling me you've never been to Malaysia.

Well tbh, I've not ever been, and I think that probably applies to the vast majority of people

But hey, you seem familiar with it so let's go:

If I were to visit Malaysia where is (in your opinion): one place I have to visit, one food I can't miss and one piece of advice you'd give every visitor that they don't ever seem to know?
