I am indeed referring to the ribbed grip and ribbed trim on the cap. I find the grip very comfortable, the ribs add extra texture so it's quite grippy. I don't find that the ribs dig into my fingertips at all. You might be better off with an 580 AL rather than ALR as it doesn't have the ribs.
The cap is indeed lovely too, it seals so well. I can see why this is considered to be TWSBIs flagship, it's very well thought out. My only complaint is the slightly odd #5 size nib, a sliiiiightly bigger pen with a #6 nib would be ideal.
TWSBI VAC 700 ALR would be the best of every world!
