Oh nah. Woke up to the sounds of something scurrying and scratching in the roof. Possums? Rats? We get possums quite regularly but the sound they make is a bit of a thud when they run across the roof, and this sound Is different, like something is inside the roof.

Rats. 100%. They can lift roof tiles and squeeze into the tinyest of cracks and stuff. They’re an absolute nightmare tbh.

Rats are difficult to be rid of. Basically you want to find their run (their paths) and bait around there.

There is also bait you can chuck up into the roof. Iirc, they dehydrate the rats and they leave to find a water source. Be aware of you have pets though, as cats may catch the rat and get poisoned too, or dogs may eat the bait.

Other than that, trying to find where they're getting in and closing it up. They're notoriously difficult, but don't leave food out or anything that would attract them.

A pest controller wouldn't do much more than the above tbh, having worked for a pest control company.

Ugh I'm going to be such a shit home owner or even tenant. I have zero qualms about baiting or lethal trapping just about any pest, but I just couldn't with rats. I know pet rats are completely different, but I can't not see wild rats as troubled pet rats, even though they still freak me out

I love rats and would love a pet one. It's hard thinking about them dying :(

I got to meet someone's pet rats once, they're so cute. They even have little hands πŸ₯Ί

They're also fucking IMPOSSIBLE to get a good photo of

Better check your rental agreement, you might need to declare they've moved in

I setup my security camera yesterday and it caught a few possums overnight! I had to turn the sensitivity down and customise the monitoring zone because they kept triggering movement notifications
