Hello everyone! For many years, I have been coding every once in a while and actually learned a lot. I especially liked C and C-Like languages and building useless stuff just for fun and for the sake of the intellectual challenge that came with it, but since when AI became decent enough, it just kinda ruined the passion for programming and computers as a whole. Thing is, I am in university now and need to go back to using C and program regularly, but now that AI does everything 20000 times better than I ever will I always either cede to temptation to use it (thus nullifying learning) or just get bored so quickly I just turn off the computer to do something different.

is there a way to revive the interest for programming and building projects? I am doing my best to stop using AI but heck I really am self-indulging. please help!

This is why bro. Other game launchers feel predatory and rushed. There is no reason for anyone to install the EA App or Ubisoft Connect other than playing that two games from those studios. The only alternative is the Epic Games Store which has the fucking worst UI in existence and has only got a microfraction of the minimum functionality useful to build a community around a videogame. It also lacks native Linux support, forcing users to use alternatives like Heroic Games Launcher

Steam wins because it does nothing to increase "shareholder value" and it just cares to be a good platform for the users, it is respectful of consumers and actively fights corporate greed and publisher dishonesty

I understand the hatred towards AI, but people gotta understand that there's a difference between coding with AI and Vibecoding. They are DIFFERENT THINGS! AI is userful, what is not are both vibecoding and shaming a developer with 30 years of real world experience with no AI support for using it for once. Using AI is ok if you do that critically and with common sense

There must be some kind of higher-managed plan on this man. Everything seems to be so sudden and coordinated it just cant be a coincidence. I am NOT giving my ID to use my computer

Hello everyone! After Discord's new CEO came to power, I think its now time to find a viable discord alternative. I figured out that fluxer.app might very well be the best one so I decided to make a community about the Fediverse on there

Fluxer is a discord-like application that also aims to bring decentralization by making users able to host their own Fluxer instances! There's a lot of potential and I think we should support the project. If you want to join, here's the link :D

EDIT: So guys, about the CLA thing.. Hampus (the Developer) removed the CLA completely so now the software is released under plain AGPLv3, which is really nice! Here's my source

I love Wikipedia (feddit.it)

I absolutely love Wikipedia. It has almost replaced a good chunk of my school books back when I was in high school and it is still very useful now that I'm in university. Wikipedia and similar things are a dream that comes true

Hello everybody! I was thinking of switching from GNOME to KDE Plasma on my laptop. The main things keeping me from switching are

  • Touchpad Gestures
  • Dynamic Workspaces

Since I have a pretty beefy machine, dynamic workspaces are more an optional than anything but if there's something unnegotiable to me, especially for a laptop experience, is the touchpad experience which must me at least viable. So what has been your experience? Please I need your opinion

Today my computer science teacher asked a friend of mine to show his screentime statistics as a joke. Bro literally spent an average of +11h A DAY on his phone...

We've known the side effects of social media for decades but we're still doing nothing...

Salve a tutti! Mi sono appena ritirato da una conferenza di informatici nella mia città e ho notato che moltissima gente scrive in Typescript ma sinceramente non ne capisco il senso visto che alla fine dovrebbe compilare in JS normale. Voi cosa ne pensate?

I'm a gen zer and I would absolutely freak out. I'd rather not going out rather than being spied 24/7 by my parents. Seriously, this is the best way to kill trust between children and their parents. Now even the social relationship between parents and children has to be extremely toxic and anxiogenic as a basic minimum requirement

I shot this pic with my phone of the time, which was an Oppo A74.

The pic is unedited. What do you think?

Hello everybody. I'm planning to get my first camera body and lenses but I'm not quite sure on what lensens to get. I think I'll get a LUMIX DMC-GF1 which I can find for fairly cheap prices so I can spend most of the money for some good lenses.

What lenses would you recommend me buying? Is there some kind of "general lenses" I can use without having to switch them according to situations? I'm very new and confused by all the technical terms and stuff

They've reached such an economic power that now they just want to be as profitable as possible, crushing any kind of competition of popular pro-user participation while profiting over our data and content

WE, the users, made them able to do so, giving them economic and sometime even geopolitical power. But WE still determine whether they can exist or not man, we still have the power to bring them down. It's time to take back what's ours!

I'll go straight to the point:

  • Piracy is useful to bypass regional frontiers and access to censored content
  • Piracy is helpful to watch content without supporting it if you consider it not worth of it
  • Piracy might be helpful for content preservation and survival
  • Piracy is useful to ACTUALLY evaluate whether to spend money on some digital content or not
  • Piracy is sometimes the only way to actually own DRM-protected content

Because I don't feel spied here. Here I feel safe man

It's time to teach them we can actually build a free, open source and popular alternative to their dystopian monopoly!

Which one would you recommend? I'm currently on the default instance but I want to support smaller instances for the sake of decentralization

EDIT: I'm noticing a lot of you guys are telling me about Lemmy instances. That's not what I'm looking for! I'm looking for a Matrix Chat server!

Still, I will take that Lemmy instances in serious consideration. Thanks!
