Security officials have warned that the New IRA is seeking to exploit rising tensions over migration in Ireland and could launch a violent campaign aimed at forcing migrants from the country.

Intelligence sources fear the dissident republican organisation is attempting to turn anger over migration into a new recruiting and intimidation tool, potentially opening another dangerous front for security services on both sides of the Irish border.

The warning comes amid heightened tensions following protests and unrest linked to allegations of migrant crime.

Security sources have told the Daily Mail that the New IRA — which remains committed to Irish reunification — is seeking to capitalise on local grievances and position itself as an enforcer against migrants.

One particularly alarming video appeared on social media last week, featuring an unidentified man claiming to speak on behalf of the IRA and threatening migrants.

The speaker claimed the group would issue migrants with an ultimatum to leave, adding that the campaign would represent a “wake-up call” for authorities.

He said: “They will take control, and they will give an ultimatum, not to politicians but to the illegal migrants who are in the country.

Security officials are particularly concerned about the potential consequences for Britain.

Any sustained campaign of intimidation could encourage migrants to leave the Republic of Ireland and attempt to enter the UK through Northern Ireland, exploiting the open land border and the Common Travel Area.

The man in the video warned: “It is now going to be time for civil war, and that is exactly what these guys are going to be doing and can you blame them?

“This will be a major wake-up call for the authorities. These guys will show them how it’s done and give them 24 hours to leave.”

That prospect would create an additional headache for British authorities already struggling to control irregular migration.

The New IRA emerged from a series of dissident republican organisations. The Real IRA broke away from the Provisional IRA in 1997 before merging with Republican Action Against Drugs in 2012.

The group has remained active despite years of counter-terrorism operations and is believed to maintain networks across Ireland and Britain.

Security sources claim it has also developed links with Scottish nationalist groups in Glasgow, which have helped disseminate its propaganda online.

The warnings come amid continuing concern over dissident republican activity.

In July, 25-year-old law student Isobella Perrie Sullivan was charged with possessing explosives after a device was discovered inside a vehicle in the Republic of Ireland. Police had intercepted her during an operation targeting dissident republican activity.

A solicitor representing Sullivan told a court she had allegedly been asked to transport a bag to Northern Ireland without knowing what was inside.

A security source claimed the New IRA had remained active in Northern Ireland, citing alleged attacks against the Police Service of Northern Ireland and recent incidents involving police facilities and a vehicle.

“They have two aims: Irish independence and all migrants out,” the source claimed.

A source told the Mail: “The New IRA have been very active this year in the North in attacks against the Police Service of Northern Ireland, at Lurgan police station and a car bomb at Dunmurry.

“They have two aims: Irish independence and all migrants out.

“We believe it is part of a power struggle going on between factions within the group of the old IRA, the Real and the New IRA, with the new incarnations advocating a campaign of violent intimidation.”

British officials are now watching closely for signs that anti-migrant agitation could become entangled with dissident republican violence.

A Home Office spokesman said Britain maintained a “close and collaborative working relationship” with Ireland on migration and border security, including efforts to identify and tackle emerging migration trends.

For security agencies, the fear is that an old conflict could acquire a new and deeply combustible grievance — with migrants potentially becoming the targets of a campaign designed to resurrect violence on the island.

A failed asylum seeker who took a hammer, a hatchet and a kitchen knife to a Greater Manchester school “for attention” has been jailed for two years.

South Sudanese national Both Douk Deng, 21, became “increasingly frustrated” that immigration authorities were not providing assistance in his bid to stay and work in the UK.

Deng, who has applied for and been refused asylum on three occasions, wanted to “create a scene for attention” to aid his cause, Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard.

He was arrested after workmen confronted him on the premises of Edgar Wood Academy in Heywood on August 6 last year.

A member of the public earlier raised the alarm after he was observed “behaving oddly” in the street nearby en route to the secondary school holding a petrol can with a hammer tied to his belt.

Deng was “mumbling” as he walked a “full circuit” around the school, which was closed to pupils for the summer, as he scanned the building and then approached it before builders working on site became concerned and called the police.

The defendant was walking away from the premises when he was detained, the court was told.

Along with the hammer and hatchet, he was found to be in possession of a seven-inch kitchen knife and a jerry can containing half a litre of petrol.

A day earlier he was spotted “acting oddly” at another school, Holy Family RC and CE College in Rochdale, also closed to pupils, where he kicked and damaged its intercom.

Sara Haque, defending, said: “He maintains that his actions were not motivated by any desire to injure or harm any person.

“This was a bizarre and compulsive act lacking in any type of maturity at a time when he was in deep distress having left Sudan and his family in traumatic circumstances.

“He wanted attention, and he was in crisis, but he was not motivated by hostility towards children, teachers or the wider public.

“There is no evidence that he threatened any individual.”

Deng, who has a wife and children, was placed in multiple accommodation housing (HMO) on his arrival in the UK, the court was told.

Ms Haque said: “He found himself in a foreign country with very limited English and unable to work because of his immigration status.

“He believed and felt no-one was listening to him and no-one was helping him.

“He felt he had reached the end of his ability to cope within the HMO where others in similar circumstances to him had been assisted by the immigration authorities.

“He became increasingly frustrated that the same was not happening for him. His only wish is to work and find money to support his family.”

Psychiatric reports on the defendant had not identified any major mental health issues, the court heard.

Deng, of Heywood, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to a range of offences including criminal damage and possessing weapons and a knife in a public place and on school premises.

Deng was told he must serve up to half his sentence in custody and the remainder on licence.

Judge Bernadette Baxter told him: “I have no power to order the Home Office to do anything.

“But in my judgment, given your circumstances as a failed asylum seeker who has been in custody for the best part of a year, the Home Office should be doing something rather than nothing to deal with your status in this country.”

Detectives from Rochdale CID worked “thoroughly” to investigate Deng, including examining his mobile phone, but found no evidence of a particular motive or intent, said police.

Chief superintendent Helen Caldbeck, district commander for Rochdale, said: “I’m incredibly proud of the officers’ response to this incident.

“They were professional and brave in tackling a suspicious man armed with weapons and immediately confronted Deng to keep the public safe.

“Thankfully no one was close to coming to harm but this was nevertheless a disturbing incident.”

The UK's flag was originally made for the Royal Navy, but later just became the national flag through popular use. It's the same with the National Anthem of the UK, it's just been adopted from tradition and treated as such.

I find this interesting as a lot of people in regards to Northern Ireland push a narrative that the flag is unofficial. It was designed and officially adopted for the Northern Ireland Parliament by the Ulster King of Arms, Sir Nevile Wilkinson, from the Coat of Arms, for the then Parliament of Northern Ireland which was formed in 1921 and dissolved in 1972. In this capacity, it was the official flag purely of the government.

HOWEVER, the Minister of Home Affairs permitted anyone to use it as a symbol just representing Northern Ireland itself. It became used in sport and is still used today.

In my opinion, this gives the Northern Ireland Ulster Banners as much legitimacy as the Union flag. The only people who object to the Ulster Banner being used generally object to Northern Ireland having a distinctive flag at all because they object to the existence of Northern Ireland.

Anyway thank you for reading my tangent.

God save The King.
