If it's not something you can get it back by demanding it in real life you shouldn't put 2FA on it. A bank account will be given back for that reason. Accounts online are unrecoverable that way. Lemmy's 2FA was so bad that many people lost their accounts using it.
Probably a troll. That isn't a normal opinion to have about used hardware. Especially in this day and age.
Computers are probably going to hang around for a while. Just get out of the mindset that you necessarily need a brand new computer.
supposedly fully caused by the AI craze.
The silicon cartel. Gotta assign blame to the ones who dug this hole and not paint them as heroes or worse, a neutral party. They made this mess
I would expect exactly that from Discord bros...
This is why we need it to be socially unfashionable to use discord. I coined the term "Discord bro" to refer to people who love and use discord exclusively. I entourage using that language when talking about the problem online and not being understanding or compassionate towards people. Convenience is a big reason for people using it. Stigma is a reason to switch.
It is a huge overstep on their part, and their reaction to the drama was extremely poor. Not surprising they ignored the accusations about blocking trans communities in their filterlist, as well as trying to censor leftists and leftist spaces.
I don't buy that his intention was anti-spam and I don't think we should give him the benefit of the doubt. He hid the commits knowing people would fork his repo and remove it, and also call him out big time for this if found out (what's happening now). He added spam lists for plausible deniability. So he could claim it's for anti-spam and so more charitable people would claim that as well. Not to block leftists and trans people which is what the main purpose is. As well as anyone else he doesn't like. It's structured this way so instances who use Tesseract also block these people he has a problem with without them knowing, possibly against their wishes since he put two lists in there, including one he can update on the fly, which is base64 encoded and compressed. I don't know how someone can look at this and claim he did any of it in good faith when he took the time and effort to hide it.
Genocide. Also ironically many countries are calling the people taking a stand against their massacre "terrorists".
You shouldn't use the term sideloading to describe installing apps from alternative sources, that just makes it seem like it's some weird and different, possibly unintended thing. When it is an intended part of an open ecosystem.
Yeah he's really unhinged.
This is a weird argument considering that gas and Diesel absolutely go bad over time, and unlike electricity you can't exactly make more of them.
I mean you can set up solar panels, a water wheel, or Wind Turbine for off grid generation. And thus you can still charge an EV and many other things. With smaller or moderate solar setups it's probably not going to charge super fast but you could still charge it.
Compare that to gas and Diesel. It may seem better since you just pour it in the tank and it works without hours or days of charging. But eventually it's going to go bad, and it's going to start going bad everywhere in your own stockpile, in the gas stations and more isn't being drilled and refined.
Diesels are slightly better than gasoline engines since you can convert them to run them off different oils, there really isn't anything else you can run a gasoline engine off. But those are also finite, and even though some of them you can make yourself it's actually more work to produce enough vegetable oil to fuel a diesel engine then it is to use solar or wind to charge a battery. Even at abysmally slow speeds.
And actually ironically Diesel and gasoline have these same issues even outside of apocalyptic settings. If there was an economic crisis (or just some idiot in power) which stopped drilling and refining from happening then Diesel and gas will run out and those Diesel and gasoline cars are going to do nobody any good.
It's not "a bit misleading" for them to call it unlimited and then ban people for using too much data, it's extremely misleading, almost bordering on scammy. If I were OP I would've done a chargeback and switched VPNs instead of begging them for an unban. They deserve it for lying and trying to deceive customers. Vote with your wallet (and chargebacks) if you want companies to stop doing shitty shady like this.

Data collection is normalized and people will come up with ""reasonable"" arguments if the practice is challenged.
