People who still use both Reddit and Lemmy and are slowly leaving Reddit. How do you do it?

I have noticed that I'm very often on Reddit through either Apollo or the website out of mere habit (possibly even addiction). However, I have also noticed that the more I use Reddit, the more I feel agitated by all the negativity and toxicity from the users.

This is pretty much in all subreddits I'm active in. Mostly in piracy and piratedgames, people quarrel over the most trivial things and downvote each other for no reason at all.

Unfortunately, Lemmy has less content than Reddit. Though, I can't call what is on Reddit content anymore.

if this is not the right community to ask, kindly point me to the right one.

I think a question like this would be better suited for a more NSFW question community. I can’t point you to the right community because I have NSFW content disabled. There might be some community called asklemmynsfw or something like that. Can't help you with the question either, apologies.

Still trying to read through Revenge of Odessa and I’m reading, ahem, Switch On! Doujinshi/H.

Revenge of Odessa is really good but sometimes a bit heavy on the mind and mood. It is fiction and about a journalist that tries to figure out why a Nazi group did something that’s related to him.

Switch On! Is surprisingly enjoyable. Simple story but decent. I will leave the details out since I’m not sure how the rules are here regarding erotic content.

I’m not an American but every time I hear something from Trump, their republic party and supporters. I just can’t help but laugh and think of them as clowns.

Their supporters believe every lie that’s been told, don’t stop for a second to think and try to factcheck. Everything is based on emotion instead of facts. But then blame democrats/ left-party for “being emotional”.

It is a similar situation in my own country but not as bad as in America.

Why tf do I even need reddit?

You don’t. Honestly, I have been thinking the same thing about myself and I assume it is more a habit and/ or addiction to use reddit at this point.

If you want to use Reddit and see some of the subreddits you follow, perhaps try to use RSS?

Reddit as a whole has become much more toxic, hateful and agressive. All that meanwhile the content is significantly decreasing in value, it is much more reposts of the same things than actual new and enjoyable things.

I have a guess on about what and who this is but why not specific it? This question can be about all sorts of things that a celebrity does.

Nothing yet. However, recently purchased the Switch 2 Zelda edition for my mother and I. So patiently awaiting for the end of next month.

Going to purchase either ToTK or Ocarina for my mother (and a little for me) but not sure which other game to get; Mario Kart World or Bananza.

[-] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 days ago

It might be growing, but the content is decreasing. The content is mostly just reposts of the same content over and over again. It is really boring. People on Reddit are increasingly aggressive, toxic, and hateful. Sometimes I wonder why I still check Reddit through the Apollo app (sideloaded) and very often I just think it is some kind of habit or addiction to check Reddit.

Life in general;

  • Oh so you are half Egyptian? Did you go to the pyramids?
  • In Ramadan; Not even water?

Truly sucks but honestly, very understandable from Nintendo’s point of view. Every other company such Sony and Microsoft would probably have done the same thing.

However, don’t think it will stop the sales of these things. It’ll just go more underground.

I'm not an American, so not sure if that matters. However, I never really cared whether someone studied abroad or not. If the person wants to study abroad, that's their choice. I just hope the person has taken a lot of time to research and prepare for it (language barrier, culture stuff, housing, etc.).

Is there a button to “hide all read”? Currently only have an option to hide individual posts that I have read.

So first in advance: this thread is heavy pro-piracy; if you are not a fan of piracy, this is not a thread for you.

A few months ago I was debating whether to buy a Macbook (Pro) or not because I still had my student discount at the time (despite having graduated). I searched a lot about it and found that the main complaint was about: price tag and walled garden. But these complaints were also in the piracy community, which surprised me a bit. I understand the initial price is high, but in return you get a great product.

I eventually caved in after figuring out that I could also pirate on a Macbook pretty easily. At least the apps. Thus far, I really like it. So far my only purchase was the Macbook itself. Everything else is pirated.

However, I will definitely purchase some of the apps sooner or later.

I love PCs, Steam Deck, and really debating whether to buy a Steam Machine and fiddle with it. But I also love the Macbook for its simplicity, battery life, productivity apps, and ease of use. Gosh, I love that I don’t have to deal with restarting after every update or the crazy fan noise after just watching a video (I had this on a pretty good Windows laptop).

I do like to give a shout out to some of the apps I use, though:

Chronoid: A time tracking app with an option to bill clients when needed. Just one developer. Definitely going to purchase this one.

MacNotch: An app with the ability to be inside your notch and give you all kinds of things such as launchers for your apps, pomodoros, shortcuts, etc.

Refine: An app that checks your spelling and grammar and corrects it (with a shortcut so that you can decide whether you want it to correct or not).

Cotypist (Pirate, do not purchase): This app is really cool and the first of its kind on the Macbook (as far as I know). It learns how you type and then gives you suggestions, and you can tab a shortcut to accept the suggestion. The reason I say pirate instead of purchase is because the developer got immensely greedy and decided to really smack his beta users in the face with an expensive subscription paywall. Many users would be fine paying an expensive one-time fee for the app, but he refused.

Since Pinterest has been a disaster for me for a long while, I have now decided to keep everything locally through EagleCool software.

Wondering whether there’s a way to have multiple sites/ platforms like Pinterest into a feed and to see all images in there. I have tried through RSS (Reeder, Reeder+ and InoReader) but that did not work out for me.

So kind of hoping someone here has a way to recommend. Would like to get Pinterest and Cosmos into it.

Apologies if this is not the right community post, was not sure which of the tech communities I should be posting.

I’m not sure if this is possible but would like to ask if you could make an option to turn off notifications per comment.

Sometimes you comment, comment and then for some reason it is just over, right? But the other person (or several people) keep going on and on. So would like to disable the notification just for that particular comment to stop seeing all these messages.

My “problem” is that I cannot (or rather don’t like to) read in my native language.

Ever since I was a kid, everything I did was in English (PC gaming, online chatting and searching things up like guides).

When I got back into reading (couple of years ago), my first book was in English. Ever since then I have been reading books only in the English language. Whenever I try to read in my native language, I can’t concentrate, get bored quickly and easily.

However, if I pick up the same book in the English language. I can guarantee that, I’ll keep reading it.

Recently got a book gifted to me, the book is in my native language. I want to read it, the story seems interesting but can’t get into it because it is in my native language. Might just get the ebook version in English, ha.

Was wondering if anyone else has this too.

I’m close to finishing Super Mario Odyssey and was wondering which games are similar to it. Fun to play and no heavy story.

I have played or are currently also busy with;

  • Mario Kart 8 (playing but finished everything).
  • Super Mario Wonder (finished).
  • Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (finished).
  • Mario & Luigi brothership (did not like).
  • Super Mario 3D World (Playing on/off).
  • Breath Of The Wild (Playing).

I understand there’s also Tears of Kingdom but don’t want to play that one just yet. Might gift Switch 2 to a family member and I have heard it is now possible to have more than one save?

ETA: It is on Steam Deck through emulation. So other games outside of Nintendo is possible too.

In advance, I was not sure where to post this; OffMyChest, NoStupidQuestions or here. Decided to do it here because it is mainly a question. However, I thought it do be better explaining it a little as well.

When I was younger, I could not really get the luxuries I wanted. Just like many others, my parents did not have heaps of wealth to spend. I did not have it bad, got a roof above my head, education, food and such. Parents would spend on luxuries if they could. My siblings usually bought the more expensive things (Atari, Nintendo, PS1 and PS2 etc). My parents did purchase PS4 and a decent gaming pc for me back in the day. One time my father told me ‘’if you just show that you are seriously studying and if money allows, I will get you anything in luxury. However, money is the boss’’ (money is the boss as in, only if we got enough money to spent for it and not get into financial issues).

Because of that I have learnt to live kind of frugal in terms of money (for myself). I find it hard to spend money on expensive things. It took months to purchase a great gaming PC and a Steam Deck (loving the heck of it though). However, spending money on my parents (mostly my mother) is no issue. I do it without a thinking, as long as I know it makes them happy.

Now, I always wanted a MacBook since I was a teenager. I can afford to get one, I saved up for it and will not have any financial issues. I budget ever since getting my job, everything is already set (saving up for car stuff, emergency funds for both myself and parents, pension saving and even saved up for new glasses for whenever that’s needed). Yet with all of that, I still feel not comfortable paying a lot for something that’s ‘’not necessary’’ and that’s just a ‘’luxury product’’. I feel like the money, I would spent for the MacBook could better be saved towards either emergency funds or car stuff (car theory exam, the car itself etc).

Now, I’m curious if other people deal (or have dealt) with this and what is this called? How to be more at ease with spending for fun instead of always being on edge.

Note: I checked the rules and it said this is not a support community but that seemed more related to tech-stuff. If it was also meant for this kind of question. Apologies, I will ask in another community.

Which RSS are you using? (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

So, I’m using Reeder Classic on iPhone. However, I can’t use it on my PC and it seems the developer has fully abandoned the Classic version and barely updates his newest ReederPlus app (which misses a lot of features I like).

So I’m searching for a new RSS. I was looking on InoReader but it’s a bit expensive (either €80/yearly or €8,99/monthly) and it seems that many old users are not fond of InoReader’s decision making.

What are you using?

I do not get enjoyment anymore out of being online, not at all. I used to really love being online; Gaming, Reddit, Discord and all that. Especially certain games and Reddit (games due to MMO and Reddit because of fun video’s, niche communities and such).

However, for the past several years I actually do not like being online and even sort of despise it. There’s no fun at all anymore, everything is either AI, ragebait, politics turned into fights and just overall misery around the world (wars, fascism, racism and general hatred).

Even the communities that should be fun end up often enough into the same things as mention previously (such as politics, ragebait and hatred). I have even tried different platforms (such Instagram, Tumblr, BlueSky, Mastodon). Even Lemmy itself ended up with a lot of the same issues Reddit has.

Yet with knowing this, I still end up being online. Reddit, Lemmy and occasionally Instagram. It’s this kind of FOMO thing: ‘’what if there’s news about X thing’’ or ‘’there might be something fun now’’. Not only that, life its self is also not so fun and kind of boring (office work, work from home and some life circumstances) and due to that still end up being online.

This post is kind of three things; a rant, offmychest and a question to the reader.

So I was wondering; do other people have a similar feeling about the internet not being so fun anymore as it used to be?

So I wanted to get Switch 2 for my mom on Black Friday. She loves Mario, Yoshi and especially Zelda games.

Month ago, I bought the Steam Deck OLED and put pirated games on it including switch 1, WiiU and PC games. She now mentions she wants the Steam Deck too.

Problems is, she’s kind of not so technical. She gets stressed when things go wrong and has no idea what to do and waits for me. So which of the two would you purchase knowing this?

Note; I’ll be the one doing everything for her. Putting games, emulation, updating and problem solving if things go south.

Money isn’t the issue, just don’t know which to get.

P.S: was not sure whether piracy is allowed in this community. Sorry in advance if it is not.

The title of the article;

Young Palestinian creator who shared glimpses of daily life during war dies

Within the news article;

Medo Halimy, 19, died after he was hit by shrapnel during an Israeli airstrike on Gaza’s southern city of Khan Younis on Monday, several of his friends told NBC News.

He was murdered, they should change the title to;

Young Palestinian creator who shared glimpses of daily life during war murdered by Israeli airstrike

The world has going immensely nuts;

  • Genocide seems okay by most of the presidents.
  • Calling for justice is a hate crime and gets you arrested.
  • Racism and Fascism on the rise.
  • Raping a 12 year old person seems to be okay, doesn’t get you labeled as a pedophile.
  • Calling out that Zionism is in fact bad gets you the “antisemitic” name.
  • Quoting Hitler seems to be okay
  • Saying that you want to erase and nuke a whole group/race seems to be okay.

I’m seriously worried for the future.
