Hi guys, same Iranian guy here, first I want to say I really appreciate you guys helping me, love you guys you all are genuinely amazing people.

I read all your comments in my previous post and one thing I realized I'm not qualified for this at all. This is too dangerous and puts my life and many of my friends at risk.

So in the spirit of being pragmatic here and finding best solution meanwhile I figure that out. Where can we have a private community with moderation and admin tools and multi-topic discussions on the fediverse? Is that even a thing? I know that's not how fediverse works so the answer is probably a hard No. Then where should we go? Discord have all this but that's not my preference at all. I know Reddit has private subs but I don't like reddit like many of you guys. What is the compromise here what do you suggest I should do?

Hi guys, I don't know if this is the right place to ask for advice about this so if I'm in the wrong place kindly show me where should I go.

With that out of the way here is my back story, I'm Iranian and as many of you guys heard in the news there are mass uprising, protests and geopolitical conflict going on here. So naturally our theocratic dictatorship leaders here decide on a whim when the whole country can have internet access to outside world or not and when they cut it off there is no safe place for people to keep in touch when we need it the most. Mostly they want to keep people in dark unaware of what's going on out there...

Here is what I thought, Can I deploy and run my own fediverse instance in this situation on VPS hosted inside the country? Me and a few of my trusted friends are the admins of a small local community of around 200 people give or take but this community can grow to 1000 roughly in future. I can be an example for my fellow countrymen here if I can others can too and many other local communities can be shaped like this inside the country... Which fediverse platform we should choose? Lemmy or piefed comes to my mind but I'm a total noob I have no background in programming. I can use LLMs for help Where should I start? Can you guys help me here. I'm a little lost all this is uncharted territory for me

Just one thing Please don't believe what this regime people say on social media they have whitelisted Simcards and are paid and told to speak regime propaganda 247 on western social media.

For a persian Delicacy I suggest: خورشت فسنجان

In English: khoresht fesenjan

I know it's hard to pronounce but it's delicious and you for sure gonna enjoy it

It is in a whitelist only mode right now only afew select websites are accessible here

I'm connected through a VPN bought through blackmarket. Yes there is a blackmarket for vpns for a very steep price so every MB counts

Miserable right? That's how I describe it

How those VPNs work? They have connections in a select few government run datacenters that are still somewhat connected and get whitelisted ips servers and traffic that they sell for a unimaginable profit

Edit: people call them outbound sellers here. powerful rich people connected to the regime

No much, providences do not have any kind of power here. they follow the orders and laws from capital on all matters

Daily life is mostly miserable here right now. Can you imagine triple digit inflation?

It's a reality here for years now for us

most government systems and programs are collapsing

People are just hoping that one day this brutal dictatorship gonna collapse and everything will finally end

They murder whoever speaks up against them in a whim

We don't have guns how can we fight these people on our own? That's why we look to outside powers to help...

We have no choice

Hi guys, basically as the title says. Did any of you guys tried any of the solutions around for this? What is the best fix for this in your opinion?

Edit: Found it! the best way is to install your GTK theme as a flatpak so it is either that your theme is available in Flathub which is rarely the case or running this to automate this process for you

Hi guys, I know I can easily make a launcher file in ~/.local/share/applications for it but I don't know what arguments to put in Exec= line to launch a specific profile. I know it is possible but I don't know how to find it

Or I have to install one if so what do you guys suggest?

Hi all—as title suggests I'm experiencing a compatibility issue between UFW and my vpn (Windscribe if it matters). My UFW defaults are set to deny incoming, allow outgoing, and routed disabled, with no exception rules configured. When I enable Windscribe (I use OpenVPN udp on port 80 if that matters) while UFW is active, Windscribe reports a network configuration error and requests sending debug logs; ignoring the error still allows the VPN to function, but I observe IPv6 and DNS leaks. Disabling UFW removes the error and the leaks. What UFW configuration is causing this behavior, and which specific rules should I add to prevent IPv6 and DNS leaks while keeping UFW enabled?

Hi everyone — I recently migrated to Linux Mint and overall my experience has been excellent, but I still rely on several Windows applications (notably SolidWorks, among others). Aside from dual-booting, which I really prefer to avoid, running these programs inside a Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC virtual machine in VMware Workstation appears to be the most viable option. However, I am uncertain how to implement this setup and whether it is the optimal solution. What would you recommend I do?

Hi guys, as the title says looking for a good OpenVPN client for linux. I know OpenVPN 3 exists but it's a pain to be honest. Edit:I know it is not perfect but I have found that the windscribe VPN Client for Linux supports adding your own VPN config files (both OpenVPN and WireGuard) and has a nice GUI . You don't need to have a windscribe account to use it either. I don't know if other VPNs clients also support this or not

Hi guys, I recently installed Linux mint on a spare laptop I had to check if I can daily drive this and since I run Syncthing Windows setup on this device before and I essentially want to replicate that setup here which means Syncthing starts up automatically on login but with the condition that the device should be connected to ac power and if it gets disconnected kill the process right away. I could easily have this in Windows setup and also in Syncthing-fork for Android with a simple toggle. How can I replicate this Linux mint as well?

First port-forward and now this I mean I get it but being versatile is more important in a VPN for me so no more Mullvad for me. I'll be moving to either windscribe or AirVPN

I hope you find this mythical place you speak of
