USA does not have jurisdiction over Finland, just sayin'

[-] Allero@lemmy.today 5 points 8 hours ago

Will only get worse from there, if no action will be taken now.

I really hope Finns will find organizers to stand up.

People's wellbeing must be the end goal, not a demand-driven commodity. That's what I would identify as a key issue here.

[-] Allero@lemmy.today 8 points 8 hours ago

You seem to miss the overall point of the picture.

It is bosses, not immigrants, who drive down wages. And boy they have plenty to spare a lot of the time.

They'd just rather have you focused on immigrants instead of the actual people who exploit desperation of migrants and remove any of their worker protections to make this possible

[-] Allero@lemmy.today 4 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

The point is, who drives down wages? They don't fall down automatically.

(Spoiler: it's your boss, he's the problem)

[-] Allero@lemmy.today 13 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

The point is, your boss could pay everyone, including them, as much as he always did, and more.

He specifically chooses to exploit this desperation and pay less, because the difference adds to his bottom line.

The anti-immigrant talks shift the blame from those who intentionally pay less to those who has to choose between a bad deal and starvation.

Elected officials won't do anything about it until you force them to. And immigrants are your allies in this - they too are a workforce who needs better wages. Your interests are aligned.

That means all BioWare games should become free now, because a closed studio can't get the money? /s

Of course EA will have no problem getting money on their behalf, all while slashing the developers. If you waited for a call to legitimately pirate BioWare games, this is it.

It's seen by a lot of eyes

Wonder how long before the code review is also offloaded to AI and Linux kernel becomes a black box with not even Linus himself knowing well enough how it works and what it does.

Yep, still up. The unit is separate and doesn't have the oven included, so it doesn't have space for knobs that would point out.

But generally, they don't interfere with anything, if only sometimes when I use a large skillet on front left burner with low settings, but I can just move the skillet a little and it works anyways, so, no big deal.

Here, this is how it looks IRL: if you see this, picture didn't load yet

I'd love to fill my RSS feed with live, personal pieces of the Internet. What are the best places to do so? I'd love to hear your recommendations!

Don't be shy to suggest your own blogs too! Your voice matters the most :)

Right in the first zone, I faced the most insane fight I probably ever had in PD. Around 25 mobs encircled me, coming in waves and never offering an escape route. I took a bottle of healing potion, pushed my way to the nearby Sungrass and got to work.

And wouldn't you know, they're all slain. You don't mess with me! :D

So, after following the discussions for quite a while, I decided to pull it off.

Having gone though the support list of various distributions, I chose Pixel 3a for my setup. Among the dirt cheap smartphones, it seems to enjoy the support of almost everything.

I decided to install PostmarketOS with Plasma Mobile. In the meanwhile, I also tested Mobian (didn't work for me for some reason) and Gnome (I ended up being too much of a KDE fanboy).

The overall experience is, honestly, mixed. It sure is exciting, and I've spent a whole day tinkering here and there (and feeling a bit nostalgic for the day I felt this way about Linux as a whole), the hardware support was a pleasant surprise, up to multipoint Bluetooth TWS headphones, but still, system stability isn't anywhere near a daily driver, and software support lags behind in many ways.

In any case, now I too have a platform to look into the future. Year of Linux mobile, anyone? :)

P.S. Any advice on censorship-resistant (VLESS/Reality/AmneziaWG-based) VPNs for PostmarketOS on ARM devices?

So, I'd love to start my own small Internet blog, and I want to make it without any extra software, just plain HTML+CSS, maybe some PHP for convenience.

I have near-zero experience in programming (~~yes I know HTML is not programming language, but you get the point~~), and I just finished a wonderful starting guide, HTML For People. I loved it a lot, but it only covers the absolute basics, and I'd love to have a deeper dive.

Are there any HTML, CSS, PHP guides that are free, text-based (so, not YouTube videos), and give more than the very basics? Would love to hear your recommendations!

Lately in the light of more Internet censorship I've been trying to establish more reserve channels for communication. As part of it, I am exploring some of the .onion services that are available.

Since at least 2023, there was a discussion of using Lemmy on Tor network. Are there any actual instances or mirrors of instances available through it? Also, is it possible to federate between .onion and clearnet Lemmy instances?

As policies all around the Western world are pushed to curtail the Internet freedoms, more emphasis is made on reaching Internet freedom in an era of surveillance and control.

Some people, particularly those living under authoritarian regimes for a while, have developed strong culture and technology of censorship circumvention.

Russians creatively develop state-of-the-art and heavily battle-tested VPN protocols and routing strategies that are near impossible to restrict. Chinese develop creative trafficking to overcome the Great Firewall. Iranians come up with strong proxying tools and offline communication. Indians are catching up as well.

Considering the current political course, and without giving up on political action, people will need this experience to stay informed and free around the Web and elsewhere. Might be worth it to start taking notes, instead of blindly relying on what worked so far.

Did anyone manage to find a REFramework version that would successfully run on a...non-legitimate version of Pragmata? I've heard rumors of it existing, and the official REFramework doesn't seem to work.

Would be extremely thankful if anyone got clues to where to search.

According to Rimu, the main developer of PieFed, all PieFed instances come with a 3000-long block list of resources that cannot be linked to. These include all sorts of right-wing outlets. There is no easy opt-out, forcing existing instances to follow the blocklist.

The flagship PieFed instance also rolled out a feature marking various other sorts of outlets - among them, resources considered AI slop and Marxist outlets. These are specific to piefed.social.

Why YSK: Many users have hard time choosing between Lemmy, PieFed, and Kbin/Mbin. Users that prefer a more curated and politically uniform experience might prefer PieFed over the alternatives. Users that are right-wing, Marxist, or generally concerned about global censorship of the Fedi-/Threadiverse, might opt for other options instead.

Note: The post is only meant to inform users of the potentially important differences between Threadiverse platforms. Any ideologically charged discussions are better left in the respective topic.

Seemingly as part of April Fools celebration, lemmy.zip instance hosts a famous game of "The Button"!

The rules are simple: each player has one chance to push a button. If no one presses a button in 15 minutes after you did it, you and your team win!

Just found it out in a random Lemmy corner and I think others might wanna join in on the fun:

P.S. enter your user and instance names, and a bot will PM you your personal login link

I'm currently trying out Bazzite, and everything is smooth, except one thing: I can't get V2Ray-based apps (V2RayN, Nekoray etc.) to tunnel the VPN traffic. As I couldn't find much online, asking here - did anyone successfully run V2Ray on immutable distros generally and Bazzite specifically? What should be done to make it work?

(An obvious solution - installation via rpm-ostree - does not help, and I need V2Ray specifically)

Yesterday, I did a fresh install of OpenSUSE Tumbleweed on my NVidia-powered machine (GeForce GTX 1060 6gb). When installing, I enabled Secure Boot.

By default, the distribution comes with nouveau drivers, and the process of installing official NVidia drivers is outlined here: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA_drivers

I successfully added openSUSE-repos-Tumbleweed-NVIDIA as per the guide; first oddity is that by default it shipped with openSUSE-repos-MicroOS-NVIDIA, which got uninstalled as a conflicting package, despite this being Tumbleweed. (I later tried to rollback and do these steps with openSUSE-repos-MicroOS-NVIDIA installed instead, to no avail)

Next, as per the guide, I tried to do zypper install-new-recommends. After installation, I rebooted the machine. Upon login, resolution was forced to low.

inxi -G has shown N/A in the driver field.

I've rolled back via snapper rollback, confirmed that nouveau drivers are back in place (resolution was back to normal, inxi -G has shown nouveau), and tried to install nvidia-video-G6 using YaST. It has automatically installed all dependencies as well.

Upon login, I faced the same issue - resolution degradation and N/A in the driver field.

Troubleshooting for this issue has shown that secure boot may not allow these drivers to be launched without importing the respective key, as listed in the same Nvidia drivers article. However, the file that needs to be imported is not at the suggested location (/usr/share/nvidia-pubkeys/); in fact, /usr/share only had nvidia folder, which didn't seem to contain any keys.

As a workaround, I attempted to disable secure boot by entering: mokutil --disable-validation. A menu appeared on reboot, through which I disabled secure boot. Further launches had "launching in insecure mode" notice. mokutil --sb-state output is SecureBoot disabled.

Then, I tried to install the driver again, as described above. Still no luck, and same issue.

So, what else could be the issue and what do I do about it next? Thank you in advance for any replies!

Solution that worked: instead of going for install-new-recommends, install the following package:

nvidia-driver-G06-kmp-meta

It should be available by default, but if not, add the respective repository by using this command:

zypper addrepo https://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/tumbleweed/

Thanks to Björn Tantau! The comment with the solution: https://swg-empire.de/comment/7201260

Update Bug solved, fix should roll out in a few days: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1249814

Stumbled across this gem produced by the U.S. Army Pictorial Service back when the original Nazi scars were still bleeding.

It talks about the tricks Nazis used to get to power, the tactics of division and suppression they have used, the fate of those who follow Nazi footsteps, and what needs to be done to stop them.

Truly a brilliant piece.
