I have the same, I dislike the kia app it is so poorly laid out and difficult to find features. HA is better but kia have a lot of similar sensors that are difficult to interact with.

Really wish it could be local. I would go so far as to put my own sim in the car and point it to my own server only.

The duopoly prevents it. In theory it should be simple to plug something other in and use it but the manufscturers dont allow for it.

Maps, music, calls and messages. None of this needs to be google and apple.

Are they that common? There is so much of it out there, are there that many dipshit memers running local models?

[-] Squizzy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

How are people doing these so common though, the big models wont do real people

[-] Squizzy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Yeah, tbh I want to decouple from tech providers completely and part of that would be enabling smart features to work locally in the car or back to a home server. I wish it were possible, currently you cant even get a FOSS alternative to apple or android auto

I domt think there are any insurance requirements where I am from

[-] Squizzy@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Love the stock pot dude

I wish it were that easy but I need an EV which all have services live. Removing the sim causes performance issues

[-] Squizzy@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Except they have higher maintenance, tax and running costs in addition to lacking feature

[-] Squizzy@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Yeah I'm not, I have a number of options and this is a point of consideration.

All cars are required to have a sim since 2016, I wish they didnt have manufacturer access but they do. I thought maybe I would get someone pointing out how to get access locally

I have a KIA, it is decent but I would love more freedom ans I sont trust that access will remain free. VW is paid now.

I am in europe and looking to buy in2027.

Fuck that Ed refused to take a stand and Kraft mever banned Kanye after releasing heil hitler.

Sheeran could speak outjust like pink did but he chooses to let a friend and colleague be put on blast publicly. Ed has the money to not be silent.

I got a pretty great openwrt router, I want to set it up as privacy respecting as possible.

I am aiming to set it up offline as much as posssible before giving it network access.

I have always used ISP provided units so this is new. It comes with adguard and such but I am thinking about a fresh install to be safe?

I got two of the above for rod curtains. I could get both to show in the switchbot integration and each show five entities and accurate battery info. Only one will move.

I got the switchbot app and they both worked. They are not great, I have calibrated them manually three times after five failed attempts at smart calibration where they just kept driving against the fully open position.

Could any one advise on thos product? I just want to operate them remotely. Without cloud or addotional apps.

Hey, I have to get a new router. Looking at a Flint 4 because things are not costly enough as far as I am concerned. I have heard good things about the Asus Merlin firmware though and was wondering are there any upsides to either worth calling out?

15

I am looking at getting the voice thing from nabu casa.

I have seen people mess witb nests and echos and similar products either through jailbreaking or full on board replacements and I am trying to pick a lane.

I just want to be able to do simple commands for now but if I got the premium it would sit in the comms cabinet floors away from me. Does it act as just a brain and I can attach any mic, echo, nest to the system after?

I got the ZBT-2 and there is very little setup or instruction involved.

Plugged in its one and only cable to my pi5. It installed open border thread integration and matter integration.

It flashes blue seemingly at random.

I cannot get any of the IKEA Myggbett, Bilresa or whatever the sockets are called to connect.

I am sat at my ZBT-2, connected to Pi via USB C. Pi is on LAN. I am on wifi.

I get one of two failures

1 unable to connect, check device, reset, check pairing mode etc.

2 setup requires an open border thread controller and then I check and the integration is bugging out.

Please tell me where I am being an idiot

25

I used the fdroid app through droidify and when I use the companion app to add a matter device it tells me to install the app.

I can only note that it requires the play store version.

Is this known, a bug or a necessary evil?

How do I find out what IPs to give, my IP doesnt stay the same? The local IP is hardly the one they want, it wouldnt make sense I think.

10

I saw an integrationfor monitoring UV exposure and tides but the only login was gmail, there was no option for any other mail to sign up to the api.

Does anyone have a decent alternative or workaround? I don't want google associated with anything.

Local Access Issue (lemmy.world)

Hi All, I cannot keep the connection stable to my pi. I put HAOS on a pi5 and I managed to get logged in on the app eventually and everytime I leave and come back it cannot reconnect.

It says it needs to refresh external IP but I only use it locally so I cant see why it would need this and I have location access allowed so it should know I am home.

I am also attempting to access on local IP 8321 and failing.

Searching comaps gets two top results looking the same. One is roughly 50mb and the other is in the 60s. The larger os Fdroid hosted and the other Izzyondroid.

What is the difference, which should I get?

Is this a good start? I have a few items connected to a philips hue bridge pro atthe moment. I want to expand to sensors for doors, windows, leaks and move my solar dashboard to HA.

Is this reasonable? I am aiming to get everything as matter if possible going forward and I guess I will only need the hue bridhe for the direct hue products like the sync box.
