How had I never heard of this? This is fantastic and well made!

Thanks for sharing :)

Gargoyles

Normal Gargoyles aren't that bad at RL1 you come back with a +25 weapon and blast them. Usually the first dies before the second one spawns much less makes it to you. Ice Spear or Halo Scythe are really good, because of the powerful projectiles. A Strike Weapon also works, but -- especially with the Star Fists -- the spindly legs are hard to hit.

In my Randomizer I had an unoptimized setup and them being the replacement for Radagon buffed them severely. I could get one Gargoyle barely below 50% before the other spawns. Protracted hitless fights with Gargoyles are pretty problematic. Oh, and also Radagons oval platform is pretty feature less and I didn't know where Gargoyel #2 was going to land; more than once he simply landed on my head one-shotting me. My Watchdog’s Staff was a decent solution: nice projectile and a long strike weapon.

Placidusax

Oh, that is a pretty fun lore perspective! I always found their background interesting and to view it through this lense…

Placi also looks pretty cool in the arena; color scheme and lighting work quite well. Metyr on the other hand looks bad in the arena.
If you are interested what's glitchy about Placi here: In phase 2 they crash lands on the railing on the side of the arena or entirely on the other side of the walls and then does their 30 second long AOE attacks. They even once nuked the site of grace. He doesn't truly get stuck, since he can teleport, but it's still annoying.

PS: I now eventually overcame the fight. Rusted Anchor + Pulley Bow prevailed. I put so many bolts in Metyr that I actually stance broke her with just the crossbow.

Maliketh's arena. Such a gorgeous place. You get immediately teleported out after the fight to the capitol. But it's really worth it to travel back. There is so much detail, and this is probably the coolest-looking place in Farum Azula.

The statues, the different Elden Ring symbol, the corpses in the pillars, and the place that best showcases Alexander's words: "The city hanging in the air is slowly crumbling. What an incredible place we find ourselves."

I don't really have time to play this weekend (traveling, lots of chores, etc.), but I had lots of free time during the week.

I'm now at the end of my Elden Ring Randomizer RL1 playthrough. But, I must admit, I had feared that the ending might be anticlimactic.

This couldn't be further from the truth: Godfrey/Loux got replaced with Curcible Duo and Godskin Duo. That arena is not made for Duo fights and Crucible Duo one-shots. I did eventually manage it: a perfect parry fight followed by Sleep Pot Noble and Sleep Arrow Apostle.

Oh, but it gets worse: Radagon and Elden Beast → Valiant Gargoyles and Dancing Lion. The Gargoyles shouldn't have that much HP and attack power. Even with Ritual Shield, I got one-shot by everything. I eventually used Watchdog's Staff for the Gargoyle and Pulley Crossbow with bleed bolts for Dancing Lion.

And you thought that was the the hardest? Consort Radahn phases 1 and 2 got replaced with Placidusax and Metyr. Placidusax gets quite glitchy in this arena, and Metyr should not be phase 2 to anything… How did I beat this? I didn't… This is the last fight that's missing. Currently I'm trying Rusted Anchor + Crossbows.

We are still in that Northwest area of the DLC (still no clue what it’s called)

Ancient Ruins of Rauh

Nice area with lots of hidden stuff. It's like an open-world dungeon.

Tarnished Pack just released.

A post about it.

Horse armor in 2006 cost $2.50, and now it costs $5. At least something keeps pace with inflation…

8

Contents of the Tarnished Pack:

  • Idus Knight and Heavy Knight as new starting classes
    • Starting equipment of the classes is also available in the world
  • New Weapons can be purchased from Merchants or found (maybe from the invasions?)
    • I don't know which weapons exactly, at least the Mirrah Greatsword and the Heavy Knight's Curved Sword and Idus Sword and Idus Knight Shield
  • 3 skins for Torrent (change at site of grace)
    • Tree Sentinel Spectral Steed Attire: Found in Stormveil Castle.
    • Silver of Caria Spectral Steed Attire: Found in Liurnia of the Lakes.
    • Funereal Night Spectral Steed Attire: Found in Altus Plateau.
  • NPC invasion in Caelid
  • NPC invasion in Leyndell

(I have no idea if or where Lucatiel's Set is available or if there is any other armor besides this and the starting classes'.)

Patch 1.17 also released with this content and some minimal balance changes.

Link to Tarnished Pack on Steam. Only available as one-time purchase for 5€ and not in any bundle.

It's now available on steam for the entire world and on console it's only available if it's actually the 28th in the region of your online store.

Terminology:

  • M.int: That's me!
  • DS3: Dark Souls III
  • SL1: Soul Level 1. Start as the Wretch Class and never level up.
  • NPCs: Non-player characters. Here the two bosses based on the player model.
  • L2P: Learn to parry.

I just completed my first Dark Souls 3 SL1 playthrough. This list is just how much I struggled with each Boss in my first SL1 playthrough with the way I played and the route I took. If I were to do another SL1 playthrough, I would struggle less with some Bosses, and the ranking would be different.

The tiers are also sorted in themselves. So Soul of Cinder is the one I've struggled the most with, and Greatwood is the easiest.

I really struggled with Soul of Cinder; he was way harder at SL1 than on a leveled character, and I suddenly played like a god-gamer and simply demolished Midir pretty early in my attempts.

If you have any questions, please ask them.

This is an actual quote by Hidetaka Miyazaki. Here is the article where the quote is from.

Transcript“But in preparation for Shadow of the Erdtree, I played through the main story of Elden Ring. I want to preface this by saying I absolutely suck at video games, so my approach or play style was to use everything I have at my disposal, all the assistance, every scrap of aid that the game offers, and also all the knowledge that I have as the architect of the game … the freedom and open-world nature of Elden Ring perhaps lowered the barrier to entry, and I might be the one who’s benefiting the most from that, as a player, more than anyone else.”

A feature I like about Lemmy is that the mod-log is public and that you can go from comments in the mod-log directly to the related discussions.

People should really check out OP's mod-log and make up their own minds.
Especially about the things he wrote about in his "Lowlights" section.

DS1: You got your own private cell in the asylum. Oscar chooses you specifically. So maybe you were extra dangerous before you've gone hollow? But also I've seen lots of "I play Dark Souls for the first time videos"; the player character doesn't seem to have much combat prowess in those. So maybe the player character only learns combat in Lordran?

DS2: You had a long, long journey since you've become cursed. So maybe you've picked up some skills on the way. Going from your happy family life to combat capable warrior.

DS3: See @YewEyeOwe31@lemmy.world answer. "Ash seeketh embers."

Bloodborne: On the one hand you've been chosen by Messengers to be a Hunter or at least for the dream. On the other, the Bloodborne player character feels more like a chosen one from the get go then the other Souls games, where you eventuallym due to your actions in game, become the chosen one. You already know about Paleblood (Moon Presence). You've come from outside, specifically seek out the Blood and you get a summon to Cain Hurst. (Were you a Noble before? You kinda look like one.) So you probably already had combat experience. Maybe not against beasts but you slaughter people just fine.

ER: "Arise now, ye Tarnished. Ye dead, who yet live." Not all tarnished were warriors, but a whole lot were Godfrey's lot. The percentage of combat capable tarnished is probably very high. So maybe you were one of the combat capable ones? (The "Hero" Origin is probably related to Hoarah Loux) I think, Elden Ring is the most vague. You had grace and then you lost it and now you get a bit back. Elden Ring leans more heavily on the "Origins" as Classes are called here and of course a Samurai can fight. It literally says in their description "A capable fighter". But the reason a naked person with a club can fight? No idea… Well, I'm off to bash Margit's brains out with a club.

So sad (。╯︵╰。)

Noru0217 is supposedly the artist. Their Bluesky and Xitter (xcancel). However, I couldn't find the original post, and this artwork has no signature, so I'm not sure…

It would be nice if anyone could find the original post, and hopefully a version that isn't so crunchy.

People seem to be misinterpreting the question as "Games I don’t like".

I don’t like soulless sports games or Gacha games. But I understand why they are popular. (In my example: Gacha, in one word: gambling; sports games, popularity of the sport and again gambling)

What is your obsession with this meme? The two times 1, 2 this was posted before, you spent over two days each writting dozens of comments. Under each post, people patiently explained to you that sex is not an easy binary and that the categorization of sex in humans includes many factors and is not always binary.

A nice graphic from the last thread:

But you know what? Let me ask you a question. After taking a quick look at your moderation history, I'm interested in your answer.

What is Imane Khelif's gender and sex?

I don't really like Veritasium (anymore).

Here is an advert by Veritasium for Google's car's (Waymo). It's a terrible video. It uncritically shills. It contains garbage "research." Here is a longer breakdown.

The unsigned (FOSS) Apps aren't removed yet. They will be removed by 2026-09-01. Removing --no-quarantine before that seems counter productive. And quite frankly removing unsigned Apps at all seems like a stupid idea. Homebrew is a third party package mamager, why are they precapitulating to Apple?
Third party taps (or are they fourth party?) will step in. You can run xattr -d com.apple.quarantine in the .rb file.

Elden Ring
Contains overtly pro-LGBTQ+ messaging. Uses body type in place of biological sex during character creation.

They only made it to the character creator. Nothing about the gender-changing Goddess, the way you can marry Ranni and she doesn't care about your gender or the way that no character blinks when you change your body type in the middle of the game.

There's also nothing about colonialism, racism, or genocide being portrait as being bad, but they aren't very media literate.

As funny as it is to meme on these douchebags. There are some disturbing entries.

Strange Horticulture
Slightly Woke
Contains subtly anti-patriarchy messaging. The npc Faye was raised by her mother who ran away once Faye's father hit her. 'Once is enough. When he struck her it finally broke the hold he had over her'

According to these people, escaping abuse is not okay.
