When I was a kid I told my mom about something scary out the window. The didn’t believe me either. Turned out someone was on the side of the house stealing parts off some kind of electrical box.

I don’t remember this. I was told about it later.

I DO remember being afraid of windows until I was an adult.

His lawyers pushed for the arrests when they didn’t appear. He also sued people over very small amounts.

He also tried to run over his neighbor in a property dispute about fencing.

KS knew this and still voted for him.

Even r/Conservative thinks this is dumb. And they have a Charlie Kirk logo

Probably fines first, and if it’s bad enough, the city could foreclose or condemn the property.

Mostly fines though.

My city has rules about all kinds of things, much like an HOA would.

Once I got a letter from my city because my trash cans were on my driveway.

My neighbor gets violation notices for his grass all the time.

Everyday, I wish that I had become an electrician.

Unfortunately, I can’t afford to go back to school.

I suspect many of us will be getting 7 day weekends whether we want it or not.

I actually think Apple Maps has gotten pretty good. I think they are better than Google at directions, Google is better at discovery.

I know that’s probably not the alternative you’re looking for, but it’s something.

I read the entire Wikipedia article, near the bottom, someone claims they “put a stop to it”. IN 2025. Jfc. They article wasn’t clear if they were talking about in Bosnia but it made it sound more recent than that.

Howdy! Sorry if this is a supid question. I've been trying to get this working for like 5 days and I've been researching and reading docs, but I'm just not getting it. I'm fairly new to selfhosing and I'm trying to set up Jellyfin remote access on my NAS. My NAS is a QNAP product running QTS (which I absolutely hate). QTS uses their own weird version of Docker.

When I start Caddy with a docker compose file, I get an error that port 443 is in use and the container can't be started. If I create a container in the Container Station app directly from the Docker Image, it starts up fine. Container Station handles environment variables in a dumb way so I am having trouble specifying the Caddyfile location when I do it that way.

Does anyone know why it works fine in that way but not the other? Both use port 443 but when I do it in a docker compose file, it says the port is in use but when I do it the other way, it doesn't and starts fine.

Note: I know you can do this with Tailscale also, but I want to use my custom domain to make it easier for sharing in the future.

As promised during The Button Season 3.

This is Dexter. Dexter ran into a wall while trying to bark at a truck. Dexter is fine. He is a good boy!

Can you name a song your dad listened to/listens to?

Why did you pick that song?

There are no rules around how you choose to pick a song! It could be something meaningful you as a kid or something he listens to now that annoys you!

I’ll go first.

Abadan by Genesis

When I was a kid my dad had a giant 200 disc CD player and he’d buy whole albums to out in it. There were always a lot of Genesis songs playing.

When he got a divorce, he lost most of that, but he always seemed to have Abacab album lying around. I asked him once and he told me why he thinks Abacab was one of the greatest songs ever written.

I just realized Netflix picked up season 3 of what is simultaneously the best and worst cooking show that was ever made. Finally, 2026 is bringing something good.

If you haven't seen this show, the first 2 seasons were a Youtube show. Enjoy, you will laugh your ass off.

Don't turn your volume up too much or you'll experience some hearing loss.

  • What about Early Access Games?
  • Do you feel differently about Early Access vs traditional preordering?
  • If you are open to the idea in specific circumstances, what are those?
  • How do you decide if a game qualifies?

I’m interested in the community thoughts on preordering and I’d love to have a thoughtful discussion on the matter.

Personally, I’m against preordering, except in specific situations where I want to actively support the development of a game.

I have been thinking about this because there is a game I’m considering preordering from a medium sized studio, but the reason I want to preorder is for the IP, rather than the game and it goes against my typical stance on this. The game is based on my favorite book series and part of me wants to encourage more games be made based on this series. At the same time, the book series has found commercial success and as a whole does not need my help.

I did name the specifics here because I’m hoping to encourage discussion on preordering as a whole, rather than my example, but if you want to know, I’ll drop a comment and we can have a discussion in the comment thread. :)

EDIT: thank you all for the thoughtful discussion on this! I expected most people to slam preordering, but there was some very thoughtful dialogue here and that is why I appreciate you, Lemmy!
