I meant to go back and edit or reply to another comment to walk back my statement a bit. There is a problem with content. The walled gardens hide content from search engines. So you can only find their content by being logged in to their service and using their search tools (which are also shit.) So yeah, there’s that too.

Didn’t they have to not air that segment on broadcast tv, but rather told people they had to go to YouTube to watch it?

search engines are failing us

But this isn’t a problem with the internet content or search engine technology. This is because every search engine company just wants to show you ads and paid content rather than actually search for things anymore. Which 20 years ago, it used to do quite well.

I'm using Frigate with these TAPO cams:

Tapo 2K+ Indoor/Outdoor Wired Security Camera, Baby Monitoring, C120

The CAMS support the RTSP protocol, which works with Frigate.

Yes the cams support audio mic and speaker when connected to the TAPO service and using the TAPO phone app.
But I do not want to use TAPO's service and their app / servers.
I keep my cams on a separate router / subnet which does not have internet access.

Only my Frigate server has a network interface on that subnet, so it can access the cams feeds via RTSP.

Now I would like audio intercom so I can listen to audio or talk through a speaker using the Frigate phone app.

I don't see such an option in Frigate.
I see there is something called "go2rtc" but I'm not sure if these cameras support this. Or even how that protocol works.
I'm willing to buy a new cam, different model or manufacturer if necessary is fine.

How can I achieve this?

I’d like to host this on the Ubuntu Linux box in my home office and put a camera in my living room. Would like to be able to monitor the camera from an iPhone, and have it auto record on motion detection.

For external access though, I don’t have a domain name registered, and I’d rather not have one. I’d be happy to access this just using my external IP address. But I don’t know how “static” the IP address from my ISP is. (My router gets it via DHCP, but I don’t know how long those leases are, or if it re-uses the same IP when renewing.)

Edit: Also what is a good camera to use? Seems like a lot of these cams require registration with some shady service and their own app to view them. Which means that all of that is running through their hosted service, which I am trying to avoid.

I'm looking for something very similar to 90s Megadeth. Think "Skin of my Teeth." (Or possibly 90s Metallica or older Black Sabbath or 90s RATM.)

But with mainly the heavy low level bass, and palm muted guitar power cords, without so much of the mids or highs (like vocals and guitar solos.)

Like bass intensive but not super fast like Slayer or double-pedal drum stuff.

Any ideas?
